I heard a caller on my local radio talk show say that Barack Obama represent a new black man who is transformational. I say he is a product of an interracial union between a black man and white woman so he is not a true black man, but is bi-racial. I can agree he represents something new or transformational. Obama had said on a number of occasions that he will make the issue of fatherless children an issue if he becomes President because of his own life experience. I predict it will be white women in surprising numbers who will put him in office. Imagine the impact of this event on the country.
Obama is not a "new Black man" people like him have been around all along. Unfortunately in the Black community people like him are dismissed as corny or bourgie and overlooked in favor of the dummies and no-goods. Some even ask if a man like him is "Black enough." Of course once a man like him becomes successful despite the community, Blacks want to claim him. His biracial status has nothing to do with it. The sad truth is that it took white people to validate Obama. If you remember February/March of this year most black voters were behind Hillary and thought Obama couldn't possibly win. It was Iowa (90% white state) that put Obama on the electoral map. There's nothing "new" about Obama, the world is catching up to him.
A man who identifies with being black by calling himself "African-American", is married to a black woman, has two black daughters and attended an "unapologetically" black church is not a "true black man"? What the fuck?
This is still a predominantly white occupied country so it stands to reason that the aspirations of any minority, not exclusively blacks, is going to be at least partly realized by the white majority, which makes this "truth" not so sad after all.
Co-sign , sad but true indeed...funny thing is some people in the Black community believed if a Black person is too well liked by Whites then he must be a sell-out or doing their bidding. Some of us expect to get our 40 acres and a mule if Obama gets elected. That we can have him on speed dial in case whitey acts up.:-(
The only thing he represents is Wall Street..just like all politicians. Putting Obama in as President is like making a BM captain after the Titanic hits the Iceberg. Believe me guys Ya'll don't want this. He's not going to change ANYTHING.. Presidents don't even have the authority that the masses believe they have..They are merely figureheads and puppets for the RULING ELITE.
Presidents have the authority to autonomously trigger a NUCLEAR PHUCKING WAR ! Some smart folks are aware of that simple fact ! Obama represents brains ... a very thoughtful man with lots of brains ... that hopefully will solve some of the major problems that the world is faced with ! :smt004

Agreed. My point exactly. The black community, I don't have any personal internal experience to comment on that. But whites dismiss too, there's the crunch. My brief flirtation of living in the US, seems public figures, brilliant, educated black guys are 'ok' and 'accepted' as being around if they are militant as it fills some type of box. But since guys like Obama are harder to catch they are ignored from all fronts. For those who read the classical French philosopher, Foucault, perhaps you could argue he is the "new". IN briefest essence, the point is that truth, and what exists, is manufactured by those who hold the power to the dominant paradigm. Different things are true, or different things exist, according to whoever holds that power. So by presenting and accepting Obama in the broader community, he and guys like him are 'born' into the broader fabric of America's truth. Then, collectively, society will realise guys like him have existed after all.
Yeah,and regarding the thread Obama(to me) does represent a new age of professional Black men whats sad,is that there have been "obamas" in the Black community for a long time,everybody is just catching up because 1 happens to be running for the presidency.The media never shows well put together,intelligent Black men,but they love to focus on the mugger,gangmember,thug on the 6 oclock news. Whats also sad,is that females(Black females in particular) dont even pay attention to the "obamas" of the Black community.Michelle Obama herself said that she was reluctant to accept Obamas offer for a date at first.Men like Obama usually date outside their race and alot of times its because Black women dont give them the time of day ..... Imagine if Obama had married a white woman,lol
