Who is your favorite President?

I was just wondering; who is your favorite President Before Obama; From the start of the nation to present day? Mine is Lincoln.

Nelson Mandela. Not many people in this world whos beauty truly shines, but his does.

If I have to pick a US president, I guess I will have to go with Clinton again. He ended 2 strikes at my airline which could have ended very badly for the company and/or the unions. We were watching the airplanes take off empty. No FAs, no passengers (per FAA rules). The FAs were picketing holding signs saying "help us Clinton". I thought to myself, yeah right. Like the president of the US is gonna do something for you. But he did. He got them both back to the bargaining table and everyone at the company owes him for that.

 

I like FDR.

 

I know this seems bizarre, but i often split my favorite presidents into two categories: the personality/likeness category and the effectiveness category. You may or may not agre, but hey, its my choice, not yours.

I love Lincoln, and I know I'll get some flak on this, but recently, I have to say George W Bush, And Ronald Reagan.

Sorry Guys, I'm a die hard, I really like GW. He was dealt a very bad hand, and did the best he could and he has kept us safe since 9/11 and I know we don't all agree with everything he did, but I do think none of us would have done any better. It's a very hard job.

And Reagan - well he's the first one I voted for and it's kinda like your first love, you never forget him.

 

You don't have to apologize for who you like. If others don't like it, that's their problem.

As for me, I don't have any favorite Presidents. I think most of them only paid lip-service to the Constitution while claiming to uphold it.

 

Tink you are a glutton for punishment for liking those men. Both have not treated Blacks well. Reagan for not speaking with Black leaders,calling Samuel Pierce the HUD secretary "Mayor",and a lot of other sins. W for bringing tokens and trying to take the vote from Blacks.

 

You should see by now Tinkerbell doesn't care about blacks except the particular one she's with now.

 

Thanks, I wasn't really apologizing for liking them, just for saying it here, when I know a lot of people won't like to hear it.

 

I went to a church with a Black pastor for the last 10 years, I never heard anyone say anything like that. I know quite a number of conservative black people who voted for McCain, and Bush. I haven't discussed Reagan with any of them. So I wasn't aware of him not speaking with Black leaders. Nor do I fully understand the other statements you made. Maybe I haven't watched enough news lately.

Call me naive again, but the truth is I came to these boards for the education, and now you can all see why I need it.

If things work out with my guy and I, I will probably encounter a lot more of this type of thought process, and maybe I will know when to keep my mouth shut.

It's not that I don't care about blacks, I simply don't know.
There is a big difference. Like I said above, I am here to learn, so please be patient with me and teach me how you think, I reserve the right to disagree, and to say so. But at least then I'll understand your mindset.

The black friends I have, tend to have very similar views to mine. We attend the same church. They may also be a minority amongst Black people. I don't know that either, I just know they are great people. But I haven't had the opportunity to talk about everything with them, I was raised in a Hispanic community, not a Black one.

If I may end up married to a black man I should at least try to understand some of the issues that he may have been raised with, I came to the internet to do so because I don't want our discussions to be all about race. I really don't care to discuss race with him, unless he wants to. I would rather discuss ourselves, and really get to know him, not his race. We discuss religion, and somewhat the current affairs, family, fun, goals, etc...

I have a Black friend at church that said a few days ago that he thought most black people who voted for Obama did so out of racism and not out of really thinking about the issues, he also went on to say that Obama isn't really black. He actually shocked me, with the later. I didn't know that thought process was out there.

I actually have more white friends who think similar to the way I have seen you post on this board, than I have black friends who think that way. Not every issue is about race. Some issues are just issues.

 

Who cares what they don't like? If they don't wanna hear it, too bad.

I'm not a fan of Pres. Bush, but I don't think he was any worse than any other President we've had. I dunno. Some people act like everything was great until Bush II came along

I do care, maybe too much, how they feel, because my purpose here is really to learn and not to offend people, but if I don't bring up how I feel, I don't get the feed back on how others feel about my opinions.

I hope to be better able to relate to more people through this experience. I sure don't want to start out offending all my boyfriends friends and family by saying all the wrong things!

 

It was. I can't believe the cultural amnesia of some people.

 

Although I was never and never will be a fan of Clinton, I have to agree that our country was much better during his era (it pains me to say that. LOL!) than during the Bush administration (and I voted for Bush both times. Ugh.)
