In other words,do other black men and black women(who dont date interracially) take you seriously, when you speak on issues in the Black community,or you attempt to show "pride" about being Black?
I've never felt like I was taken less seriously because I date interracially. No one ever made me feel like I wasn't "black" or anything. My dating habits never made a difference in peoples' reactions to my speaking on issues relevant to blacks or anyone else
I've got that crap sometimes before, when I was with my ex. "how can you talk on black issues in the community when your with a white women"
Thanks for bringing this malikom , Yes , most people in my community are against dating IR or even sometime against people of certain cultures. Most of time i don't discuss my IR interests with them. One of my cousins told me once that he will never let me in his house if i ever dated a white woman , they always get the excuse of calling them oppressors and the organizer of wars in our Country. But my parents are fine with be dating any one as long as the Person loves me and respect my culture. It's even worst to see my friends (not the westernize ones) reaction (i used to be like them though ) , they say IR dating is for people thinking that black are inferior , we date white girls to balance our self in the society. And again they state that they will try to dominate me (make me cook , do the house work and choose who i should be friend with... ) , i do not agree with them and we're always end-up with arguments... at the moment i keep quiet about my IR interest and i only discuss that with my close friends.
Hey, the above comment has nothing to do with race, we women are just like that, if they guy will cook, awesome, if he want's to vacuum, even better, and who he is friends with, well, they better like his lady or there's trouble..... It's not domination, it's women everywhere.... some men figured out that we would love them more if they did all that stuff...... some guys like the rewards they get.....
I dont think it matters who you date and what race they are, if you have a point to get across and you feel deeply about it, people will listen to you
you know...i have never dated IR...but I think it has to do alot with the actual people dating then the black/white thing...like my crazy was dating this white chick that was addicted to pain meds, everyone knew she was on some shyt just by looking at her...so of course then at that point my cousin's judgement was scrutinized...now if he was dating someone that was very productive then sometimes one can see why a black man might be interested in them...if he was dating a black crack whore, I am sure his credibility would be shot also...ahah
The ones that decide not to respect you because of your dating/marriage choices are typically house Negroes passing themselves off as pro-black brothas and sistas.
If this were 1968 instead of 2008, I'd probably be the only member of the Black Panthers with a white girl on my arm. Enough said.:smt023
When black folks or anyone else who disapproves of my lifestyle start signing my checks, I'll take note of their opinions.
I personally don't care, since there are far more serious problems within the black community seeing black men dating and/or marrying white women. One of them, there is a growing issue called black-on-black crime that has yet to be been mentioned or talked about. And besides, I choose to date whomever I prefer, regardless of what people say.
more will comment than those who don't comment. the black community typically doesn't think as highly of a BM in a leadership role w/ a WW.
Tink. My experience in dating within the African community goes totally against this. The BW that I hung around were totally different to me. In my particular instance, my western upbringin and his African upbringing were very obviously different. He got totaly mad at me once at a BBQ, because I wouldn't go to the kitchen, and because I wanted to sit back and chat. That's what I do - I talk to people, and help out if needed. Not hang with the women, cooking for the men. If Maghalil is from Africa (as I understand him to be) then I totally understand his position. It's tough as a WW too.
