Wow, I seem to have touched a nerve. I do find it interesting that you state how unaware someone may be of how beautiful their color and skin are....yet you claim it has nothing to do with "racial issues". With skin color being a primary indicator of race, that would seem contradictory. Futhermore, your state of "at the moment" attraction would seem to add validity to my position. I prefer to think of myself as a good person, who just happens to be black. Others may not feel that way, nor the people who are attracted to them. To conclude, I woul like to re-print my previous point, with an added emphasis that seems to be applicable in your previous matrimonial situation: "...but suffice to say that white women, by and large, who date black men are also open to dating other races and would certainly prefer to marry within their own race if the right person/opportunity came along.
I can't speak for Tink but I personally take issue with the phrase of "prefer to marry within their own race". In speaking for myself, I am more attracted to black men. I do think that it's important to be physically attracted to the man I end up with and I do happen to be more physically attracted to black men. For me, character is most important. I do realize that I have different dynamics in my life, which makes me think about all sorts of things that others may not think about too. For me, it's not a "at the moment". I've been through good and bad relationships with black men. It's not about a fantasy or any of that. I've dealt with the day to day realities of all of it. I can't speak for everyone but my thought would be, those of us who do actually prefer black men would prefer to marry a black man. Whatever that reason may be.
Good post K, that is exactly what I take issue with. I do not prefer to marry a white man, never have, I simply am not attracted to them. I have many friends who are white men, but that's all.
To add a fact, we have minds of our own, Here in pittsburgh a lot of white girls get called racist if they date only white guys or only black guys. And like it or not a person's personal preference is our own, god gave us a free mind for a reason, we think for ourselves, if it is for racist reasons why a person doesn't outside or inside a race then unless they make it a public ISSUE!...(emphasis on the word issue.) then they are inviting reactions, other than that people are and have the god given right to personally prefer and think what they want, same for those who are not racist, but prefers to date within their own race or outside their race. It is 2008 and I just wish people will stop lying about their preferences now days, you hear it all the time, for instince I have a cousin who says she is attracted to white guys, she'll date a white guy. The girl goes to one of the predominantley white colleges here and turned down several of them, saying I don't find them attractive. "Thats because your not attracted to white guys, you think some are cute, but thinking and feeling are two different things." That is why I give props to khloe kardashian, keri hilson, joanna shari, doutzen Kroes, Polow da don(record producer.) and others on voicing it without any hesitation and not much backlash to prove that it is 2008 and the only ones that are going to care are usually haters to begin with.
This isnt true for me. I have turned down more white wanna-be husbands than others. I have married twice and both times they were black americans. I never thought bout wanting a husband of any ethnicity, always just wanted a good man. :smt102
