You know you'd be lost with out the issues to discuss, we keep you focused, thank us, you really do love us all. This article makes it look like the republican party somehow did this, and I don't know but maybe they did, what I still don't see is that this particular man did anything wrong. We're giving Barack Obama a chance, give this guy a chance.
Whether or not Michael Steele is a token remains to be seen. The GOP must focus not on placing blacks in leadership postions but rather on having blacks at the root of the tree...meaning the base. George W. Bush had as many blacks in key postions as any Democratic president but that didn't draw blacks toward the Republican platform. Indeed it does appear questionable...and one has to wonder if Steele would have been selected as the RNC Chairman had President Obama decided to stay in the Senate for a few more years. No amount of wrangling at the top is going to change the undeniable truth that 90% of African Americans feel no urge to support GOP candidates. That doesn't mean blacks don't agree with the GOP on many issues...oh quite the contrary. Blacks' conservative slant on many issues is in line with the GOP but the trust factor is not there. It doesn't mean that the Dems. are perfect but remember the saying "trust the devil that you know." John McCain's concession speech is still a moment that is etched into my memory. The television camera spanned the entire audience and I didn't see one face that wasn't middle-aged/elderly and white. Until that changes, Republicans will be left watching Obama start a Democratic revolution that will make the Regan conservatism of the 80's seem like a mere prologue to a more gripping novel.
Great choice. Michael Steele is known to be one of the most charismatic voices within the GOP. He's even been supported by Russell Simmons. Every time I see him on TV he sounds smart, logical, and to the point with no bullsh*t spinning (he's willing to point out the faults within his own party). I remember when he lost his 2006 Senate race, many political commentators and analysts were saying that the ONLY reason he lost was GWB's unpopularity and that in 2004 or 2002 he would have won easily.

The Left ain't fallin for it. The Republican Party is still the party of Lincoln only in passing, it took the Dixiecrat position from Southern Dems back in the 70's with what Nixon and Pat Bucanon called "The Southern Strategy" and look how the voting largely went for Obama and notice the nutcases they didn't vote for the Reinvestment Plan all come from places Obama didn't win, no fear of loosing face or your job. Nevermind they put us in this position for them to cry "Fiscal Responsiblty" now is rather ridiculous and far from an honest position. Nothing to celebrate here, laugh really hard maybe but not celebrate. Next they'll trout out a Transexual to pull in the LGBT vote... The Repubs aren't know as the "Lily White" party for nothing....
It was that lunatic Michele Bachmann who also insinuated that Congress should revive the House Un-American Activities Committee to investigate liberals en masse for subscribing a "treasonous" political ideology. It's mind boggling to me that she was still reelected after everything that she's said. I remember a lot of wingnuts, especially the idiots on the Wall Street Journal Editorial Page, pushing that bogus meme about low income blacks being responsible for the subprime meltdown (and by extension the entire international banking crisis) during the Presidential Campaign. However, I've decided that I'm pretty much done arguing with people about how race has been used for the sake of advancing partisanship in politics in this country. The people who deny this fact are either ignorant, being deliberately obtuse about the state of race relations (which is en vogue these days) or just fucking stupid.
The Blacks that Bush put in key positions was great, unfortunately the blacks like Powell, Rice and others didn't have the credibility in the average black community. I doubt Connie Rice could relate to the black community as a whole she would be comfortable around wealthy white people. Most blacks associate conservative black republicans as "self-hating" negroes.
