Looks like Steele wants to take on the Obama administration

Well it is no secret that Time magazine is no friend of republicans in general or black republicans in particular so I wouldn't put too much stock in that.

The job of out of power party chairman is not a glamorous one. Can you remember any of the Democratic party chairmen during the Bush adminstration? How do they compare to Steele?

 

Glad somebody remembers JC Watts. I wonder about him when all these black GOP apologists pipe up.

 

I knew soon as I wrote "Time" that would be your response. Typical conservative tactic since Nixon, the media is the enemy. Too bad I don't read National Review, you wouldn't question a quote from that magazine.

Howard Dean basically invented the Internet fund-raising machine that Obama perfected four years later. His was also the 50 State Strategy that helped Obama win the White House. Terry McAuliffe before that, Hillary's campaign manager. And no, I didn't Google.

 

I was lucky enough to meet and have dinner with Mr. Steele when he was running for the senate, he is an intelligent, thoughtful, caring person working a tough job in a tough environment. Those that sell him short, think he is just a token, sell out, puppet, ect. will be in for a rude awakening. He has made some missteps his first few months in office, but I am sure he will find his stride (already has to some degree) and move the party forward. That being said, I was very dissapointed that he did not stand by his original critical comments regarding the "comedian" Rush Limbaugh and gave in to the pressure to make nice with that troll.

 

Well at least I didn't dismiss the entire media, but I don't think you can deny Time's bias.

Good answer on the chairmen. Dean did great. McAuliffe raised a lot of money but couldn't get the POTUS elected. Couldn't defeat the Bush/Rove team. Now McAuliffe is running for Gov of VA. He seems like a used car salesman to me.

 

They said that George W. Bush was intelligent and thoughtful too and see how his presidency turned out.

The only thing I'll say is that they gave the RNC to a brother after it had been destroyed, same way Obama inherited Bush's mess. In that at least, they're equal.

Ronald Reagan one of the best presidents EVER??? The two greatest presidents that ever walked the earth was Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt.

Lincoln was great because he made the country ONE nation. There was no south United States and a north United States. If there were, there would have been more than one civil war. If you look at the history of man, going back as far as recorded history, there has always been civil wars when the country was divided, North/South Korea, North/South Vietnam, East/West Berlin, etc., etc., etc., A DIVIDED country has always fought amongst itself.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected when this country was going through the great depression. When unemployment was at 33% nationwide when he was elected in 1932. Then in 1941, the country was forced into WWII when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. You can say whatever you want about FDR now but the people who were alive at that time voted him into office 4 times. He served as president for almost 20 years before he died while in office. This was a man who was confined to a wheelchair because of polio.

Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980, there was no great depression or war going on during his reign from 1980 to 1988. How on earth can you compair him to Lincoln or FDR???

Sure I can. And I will. I don't see the bias other than they may report on things conservatives don't want to hear, like how the GOP is an "endangered species" (latest issue) or how great Obama is (not bias, but fact).

I think you mean couldn't get Hillary elected. There was a lot of infighting in her campaign that helped sink her. McAuliffe didn't do her any favors. That was one time the Rove attack machine wasn't the culprit.

We'll see about McAuliffe's VA governor run. Tim Kaine (outgoing VA governor) is the new DNC chairman by the way.

Calm down, Kimbo. The revisionist history extolling Reagan has been in overdrive since the early '90s. The only people who actually believe it are conservatives who have a relative dearth of heroes compared to Dems (FDR, JFK, LBJ, etc.). One can argue Reagan's biggest accomplishment, the end of the Cold War, would have happened anyway, just as modern-day conservatives try to say that the fact there hasn't been another 9/11 is down to their efforts. Both are grand claims that convieniently can't be proven otherwise.

 

I think you would have to agree the jury is still out on that one, but he is off to a good start.

He didn't get the job done as Dem Chairman or as Hillary's Campaign Manager.

 

If I were like you, I'd say those polls were biased, esp. the Rasmussen one, a known conservative pollster.

 

No argument here, but had Carter been president we might all be speaking Russian.

By the way, Reagan didn't simply end the Cold War. He won it.

 

Okay. Find an unbiased poll for us. Let's see where Reagan is ranked there.

 

LOL what part of "First African-American President of the United States" don't you understand? That alone makes him great. He can twirl in his chair in the Oval Office better than George W. Bush. As for the rest, I agree he's off to a great start.

 

He militarily outspent a broke Soviet Union that couldn't afford to stay in the game. If you call that winning then I guess so.

Not sure that I ever heard W referred to as thoughtful and intelligent, all I heard when he was running was how he was a legacy placement at Harvard, did not earn his way, was a mediocre student, party-boy, drug user, lousy businessman who trashed viable companies that were essentially given to him by his dad and his contacts, in other words a litany of negatives doubting his intelligence.

Whether you like Steele or not, I don't think he will allow himself to be used, I will remain objective and evaluate him based on what he does/does not accomplish during his whole term. It is historic to have a Black RNC chairman nonetheless, and I will wish him well while doing what I can to hold him accountable.

 

There are many interviews I've seen that cite Bush as a kind man whose funny to be around and caring in personal relationships. There are even some (not many) who say how intelligent he is.

Steele's already being used, the question is for how long.
