Very reasonable and compassionate critique Francie (I would expect nothing less from you). I agree with your view that the companies should find other ways to cut costs and not pass the added expense that cap and trade could bring on to the consumers, however we know from the history of capitalism that they will do whatever it takes to boost profits, that is both the beauty and the downside to free enterprise. I did some quick research and discovered that your government (please correct me if I am wrong) does in fact give an annual tax free (http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTa...editsAndOtherSupport/Inretirement/DG_10018657) fuel benefit for those 60 and older, very interesting, is this a popular program there or do people grumble over the taxes needed to support this program? Here there are both federal and local government created programs that assist low income families and individuals with their utility programs. For example the LIHEAP program. However such programs are usually temporary or one time payments.
Yes indeed and his critics I can imagine will say had he did nonething,"Obama is show boating do-nonething President."
Yep your right we do have an annual Winter fuel payment, also for low low income familys with children they have a weekly fuel payment if the temperature stays below zero for more than a week. I don't see people really grumbling about the Winter fuel payments, I think it's one of those particular things that doesn't seem to anger anyone, I mean who can complain about an old Granny NOT freezing to death lol. Sorry i have taken so long to get back to you, not been around much.
In principal all European countries have a welfare system which protects the less well off and the elderly. There is a sense of common good, which the people generally agree with. That we pay taxes for the common good. It doesnt matter if the Government is socialist or conservative.
it does bug me somewhat that it only kicks in if the temperature is consecutivly under zero, so if it rises to 1 degree for a day the counter goes back to the beginning
Yep exactly, lol like it takes a whole week to get Pneumonia and you manificently heat up if there is a mild 2c day.
Thanks Loki, facts will shut the haters up one way or another.lol Anywho, Obama is also one step away from making presidential history on healthcare. No president has been this close to giving Americans universal HC. The folks complianing don't really know how politics works, it takes time to see the results of change or jobs etc. Bush destroyed the country in 8yrs and people expect Obama to wave a magic wand & to fix everything in 10 or 11 months.lol It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know its gonna take over 4yrs to fix the republicans mess .
I wouldn't say Bush "destroyed" America. YET...that arrogant old bastard made a lot of mistakes, most of which we are still paying for, but a few we will only just now start suffering for. Obama has a lot of work ahead of him, and you can expect the grey on his head to be a lot more widespread by the end of his first - and maybe only term.. Agree, it's far, far too early to deem the Obama administration a success or failure. One thing is certain; it's a damn sight more successful, at the end of the first 8 months, than Bush's was.
Most of this stuff with the deficit and the wars aren't Obama's fault. But, I am disappointed with how he has approached these issues and the health care situation. The latter I feel will be a huge factor of whether or not he is deserving of a 2nd term. If there is no resolution to this, I can see him being a one-term President. I stopped celebrating the day after Obama got elected, unlike most who voted him in, since I knew there is a lot of work that has to be done.
Not too long time ago, people said the same thing about our former president Ronald Regan when he approached the same tone with the deficit and they were expected him to be only one term president, what did that get him? He's done a fine job tackle the issues and that's how my family liked him so much and cast their vote for him. So he deserved a second term for being president. So same thing goes for President Obama as well. Knowing how he exposed himself for going out to talking to the public, despite how popular is he, as of right now, he need to stop being like rock star here, he has to realized there are so many things that he have to deal with it if he wants us to give him for four more years to get it done. You, my friend, please have a good faith in our president, I know what he's doing, but please trust him on a good sense of purpose. I hold him a strong word on to end the war once and for all to bring all our troops back home to focus the issues he needed to be deal with. Fighting Taliban and other terrorist organization isn't going to be easy to defeat, they will be around a bit longer, they fought so hard to shed blood for stupid reason. Osama Bin Laden is to blame here, because he's the responsible for bringing the destruction on our home turf, yet he's trying to destroying our spirit, yet we stand here as united country to get him more than ever. That evil man I will not forgive for committed such evil acts for what he's doing and he, himself, has already burned in my thoughts after seeing him laughing so harder! That's why we have to go after them to destroy them once and for all. So, have faith in our president Obama!
First off, Ronald Reagan's time does not compare to ours. Obama is taking on the biggest deficit in the United States history. It has gotten bigger under his administration. He has two wars that he knows he can not end despite pledging to end one of them. He also hired a guy who had issues with the irs. Faith is not enough in this time and age. We need results. He has until the beginning of the election run of 2012. He had better show results before that happens or he will end up like jimmy. I am certain he is well aware of this. People will go along with the rockstar presentation but it has set too high of a standard for him. He has no where to go but down thanks to the standard. People are not patient,. They want results immediately. I just hope he is holding out til before the elections. Otherwise, he may find himself looking for a new job.
