Jesse Ventura said on Larry King. "Voting on Gay Marriage is the same as voting for or against Slavery" Do you agree or disagree with this statement and why?

While gay marriage and slavery are two totally different topics, the logic behind his statement is sound when you view it from a chronological milestone perspective. The common thread behind these two issues is the changing of the American way of life (accepting the rights of gays, as the country embraced the rights of people destined for slavery). I'm assuming this is what he implied when making such a statement, as it should be common knowledge that slavery has nothing to do with being gay.

Think outside the box for a second.

 

The "alternative lifestyle", for all intents and purposes....is a choice..

Slavery wasn't an option.

Ahem, sorry but I must respectfully disagree with you. I don't believe homosexuality is a choice for everyone. There truly are some people who simply have always been attracted to the same sex, for whom there was no defining moment or conscious decision to 'be gay' one day. There are some people simply born with that predisposition, IMO.

 

So I *did* neglect to say...'for the MOST part'..

That's true. No one's refusing the current beliefs of what slavery entailed, and how someone subjected to such a fate, had no choice.

However, who are we as a civilization, to hold a vote or want to hold a vote, on something that a certain group of people wish to do? Choice in lifestyle or not, we (generally speaking) are still infringing upon the freedoms of people, much like slavery did to us. This is what draws the two together, as different as they may be by definition and people affected.

I understand it that freedom/ freedom of your own decision /freedom to love who you want/ to live as you want, is the highest value of human beings..btw- I think it was time that gays and lesbians can marry..

I dont give a hoot who is marrying who ( a gay with gay, a gay with hetro, a tranny with tranny, man getting pregnant, woman straping dildo). I really dont give a shit.....a woman can marry her horse and her dog at the same time if she wants to, but dont equate your struggle with blk struggle. That's all.

 

Do you agree with gay education programs for grade school kids? No more male and female bathrooms (they must be gender neutral). No more prom king and queens? Do you agree with those ideas?

I heard of some local case that went to the court by ACLU lawyers. A gay student wanted to be a queen for the prom, I am not 100 % sure but I believe he won the case and became the Queen for the prom.

 

Well if that's what it takes to prevent senseless acts of violence towards people that are different, then so be it. Letting such hate proliferate towards gay people, would be no different than letting hate breed towards black people. If you can't draw parallels between both plights, I don't know what else to write. All that I know is that if ignorance was allowed to prevail in this country, you and me both would still be in chains and white people would be our 'masters.'
