Atheist or Homosexual President?

I was thinking about this the other day. I believe America would have a homosexual man or woman in office before an atheist even though we have "freedom of religion."

If this topic is too controversial, I apologize. I am atheist and I believe people would go on a rampage if an atheistic president wanted to run. America is still 200 years behind other countries in regards to gay rights and such.

 

No way. America is still trying to fight to keep homosexuals out of the military and you think that we would somehow manage to get more than 50% of the nation to vote a homosexual into office??

Politics in America is all a game anyways. We don't ever vote for someone who is 100% authentic and true to who they portray themselves as. We vote for who they want us to believe they are.

That being said....there have probably been numerous homosexual (James Buchanan and Abe Lincoln to name some speculated) and atheist presidents. We were just convinced otherwise.

But I agree with you no politician is who they say they are. Its so much horseshit now but unfortunately to many dumb asses go along with the dumb shit.

 

You'd be surprised how many gays and athiests that have already been president.

Just because they say they're christian and straight doesn't make it so.

Many Christians would view an atheist and a homosexual as equally undesirable. I don't see either carrying anything but a very, very small... maybe infinitesimal... percentage of the 'Christian' vote were they to run,and a lot of people profess to be 'Christian' even if they aren't practicing the religion actively. IMO whoever ran against them would win, regardless of any other issues. Hypothetically speaking, if the Democrats backed an atheist, and the Republicans backed a homosexual (I know, I know... that's why I said 'hypothetically'), whoever ran as an Independent would win, mostly likely hands down. Some people would view an atheist or a homosexual as the worst possible candidate, and even if the other candidates sucked, they'll choose bad over worse any day.

I agree with Flaming, there have no doubt been homosexual and possibly atheist Presidents in the past. It would be political suicide to announce that though, so of course if they were it wouldn't be public knowledge.

 

nope. An atheist will get there before a homosexual. Think of it like this. Who do you think it would be easier to make fun of? A gay person or a person that doesn't believe in god. There are few atheist jokes in comparison to homosexual.

Times continue to progress in terms of attitudes and what have you. Back in the day, and this isn't too far back, no one ever thought that we would have a black President. Although President Obama wasn't the first African American (I know he's mulatto, but for the sake of discussion) to run for President of the United States, he actually broke a major barrier that people five years ago couldn't believe at all that we would elect a black president.

Also bear in mind, throughout America's unspoken history we had:

1. Female presidential hopefuls.
2. Gay presidential candidates.
3. Atheistic presidents

Regarding today's standards...that maybe true for now. But for the GOP, the most popular person for them is a Mormon, and they are regarded as being part of the bastardized aspect of Christianity. But Romney does have a lot of popular pull mainly due to his business savvy. Let's not forget Donna Milo, a GOP conservative Transsexual/trans-gendered person who gathered 30% of the vote for her district, which is significant given her position. So, another bit of history could come into play soon as well beyond race and gender and sexual orientation.

Now back to the topic, an openly gay president is very possible, as do an atheist president. But not at this moment in time. We still have a lot to do first. We'll basically have to elect a female, and other ethnic groups before lack of beliefs and openly gay public officials can gain some steam. Oh and if the country no longer is center-right.

 

I want my president from whatever party to be intelligent and not base his/her thoughts on a book(s) written by men who wanted to keep the masses in fear of an unknown being.

They should re-title the bible "The Book of Magic".

 

I want my president to be elected based on how well suited for the job they are, not what color they are, what they have in their panties, and who sticks what phallic object into what orifice.

Mate, I think Athiests have a far better chance of making it to the Whitehouse then Muslims....you should add that to your list of Whitehouse no no's.
