Value added tax is going upto 20% from 17.50% tonight. That's everything apart from Food and Childrens clothing going up two and a half percent overnight. Bloody super. The cost of living is getting absolutely outrageous, peoples wages are standing still. Gas prices especially i feel are hard to bear, yet we have had an announcement of another rise for that. The price for a gallon of petrol in my car now is about £6.05p Nearly 70% of that is Tax. We pay Billions to the European Union so we can be threatened with fines over prision detainees being allowed to vote. I'd like to see one good thing from being part of Europe when times are hard like this, all they seem to do is ride our arses harder. We send money all over the world, but we have pensioners freezing in there beds here! Just a Rant.....
Very sorry to hear this Francie, I remember reading about riots over there in the UK due to higher education increases in tuition as well. Hang in there, have you thought about diversifying you income sources? I.E. taking a class on investing ect.?
I was thinking of going self employed i'm enrolled on an enterprise course for the princes trust, but I'm a bit scared about keeping a grip on finances and tax contributions if I go self employed. I want to make sure I can handle it before I get myself in trouble with the inland revenue. This is not a baseless fear, I know a few people with problems from the Tax man. Anyway this is what the enterprise course is for, training in running ur own buisness they have a special lecture from people in the Tax office (so I've been told) there is also the chance to apply for funding for ur project, but I'm not sure I will need it to start with. I work part time, my ex pays for the kids I don't really owe money right now, I have 1 credit card but thats about it, things aren't really bad for me, I'm on a very, very small budget and I don't see any scope for the future ie next 3-5 years.
I want a VAT implemented here as well, particularly on luxury items. If we are going to allow income inequality to widen to a degree unlike any other advanced democracy, then the wealthy need to pick up a greater portion of the tab for our social programs.
I've heard there is going to be a VAT for the States but,the businesses and corporations will fight against it.
Glad to hear you are thinking of starting your own business! I know it can be very scary (the vast majority of small businesses fail) but the rewards if you keep at it are IMMENSE! Being my own boss has led to a vastly superior quality of life, economically, mentally, and freedom of time wise, than my employee days. As smart as you are it is no surprise that you seem to be going about it the right way, glad to hear you are taking a class, I would also encourage you to speak to other successful entrepreneurs. The best advice I got when starting out was to find a niche or a need and fill it business wise. I would also recommend at least 12 months of living expenses in savings as a fail-safe, things always take longer and cost more than you think. Good luck, you can do it!!!
Good luck in your business venture. I agree with Loki, if anyone has the intelligence and moxie to match it's you. You can surely make a go of it. And so sorry about your tax raise. Death and taxes. :smt011
Don't you know it, it just pisses you off and if it's not that it's handing it over to people, who have no intention of using it for the purpose given. What a bunch of wankers we must look. I have a niche client in mind for what I'm selling, in fact have already sold too, unusual childrens clothing , what you would say over the top stuff for kids lots of bling. I'm afraid savings are a no..no..i will just have to do it alongside what I'm doing and when I got a little bit of a foothold i'll be cool. Thanks for the support. Ahh thanks......Death and Taxes
Okay. What about the salespersons and other employees that would lose their jobs due to the cutbacks? A high tax model does not work.
Your question is speculative and high(er) tax models work in Sweden, Australia, Finland, Denmark, and a variety of other nations with a higher standard of living as well.
So you use a left wing magazine to base you arguement on. Nations in the EU are failing due to high tax models. A VAT tax as proposed by your liberal friends would take money out your pocket as well as job producers. The Free markets without Government involvement is the best system for growth.
Umm, no. Some EU nations are experiencing debt problems in their economies, but the reasons bear no relationship to what you're attempting to argue. In the Greek economy, for example, the problem primarily resides in the fact that they have a highest percentage of self-employed workers in Europe. Many of these workers, including doctors, conveniently make less than €12,000 annually, which is the threshold for not having to pay income tax. So the debt problem in at least one EU nation principally stems from millions not honestly reporting their income and paying their fair share of taxes. In Ireland, their banks experienced a solvency problem as the result of the end of a real estate boom. Without breaking down the problems in Portugal, Ireland, Greece, and Spain individually, I suggest that you do your own research to learn the truth rather than parroting freemarket ideology.
Well while I'm learning I pulled up a article as well. http://www.glgroup.com/News/Greece-...policies-and-conflicts-of-interest-46434.html In this article it states that the socialist government in Greece is the cause of their economic problems. it has more of those Tea party buzz words like "Oversized Government" & "expanded entitlements" Now what?
