What exactly was his accomplishment though? I have no doubt that, as a politician, he served his means. But regarding much of his record, when he was Lt. Governor and then Chairman of the RNC, much is left to be desired. He has a poor handling in finances, which what lead him to a 11 point loss in the Senate race beforehand. But playing Devil's Advocate here, he faired slightly better than his predecessors by accumulating $1 million for the RNC. And while it may not speak on much, it does show that he has tried to exercise some sense of fiscal responsibility.
GOP regained the House, no small feat. He would have been blamed had they lost, he deserves credit for winning.
I "would" incline to agree with your statement, but I think the people who actually gets credit for the GOP taking over the House were basically the people of the TEA Party Express. Michael Steele really had little to do with it all, especially fundraising came up short compared to these business entities that cropped up enough money to give to their supporters. Oh, and Sarah Palin gets the most credit. Shitty outcome for the country to be frank.
The problem with the University of Minnesota article is that it doesn't parse chairpersons for the RNC who actively pursued re-election from those who did not. Jim Gilmore, Marc Racicot, and Ken Mehlman, for example, all resigned their posts as RNC chair to pursue other projects. By contrast, Michael Steele actively sought re-election three months after the 2010 mid-term elections reinvigorated the Republican Party. Had the party ran moderates in Nevada, Delaware, and Colorado, they might have won a Senate majority as well. To reiterate, Steele's persona does not mesh with the face value direction that the Republican Party has taken since 2008. If it weren't for Obama getting elected in 2008, Steele wouldn't have gotten the job. If Hillary had won, we would have gotten a female RNC head.
Exactly, Steele got used as a puppet and does not fit their bill at the moment. Most logical ppl knew by early last year that the next RNC was going to be anyone but Steele. Also if the above article posted has some truth to it and Steele got some serious offer to not seek reelection, that just confirms what the GOP think of him. They got someone to pay Steele to go away, they dont care two shits about his black ass.
The direction of the Republican went astray since The Religious Right and Jerry Falwell sprung up from the ashes, thus Reagan Conservatives took center stage. They were never a strong party that yearns for diversity since then.. But yes, you are absolutely correct nonetheless. His views are pretty much in sync, but his face and character doesn't. After all, he WAS a Democrat.
So far Herman Cain did not hook up another brother to run on the GOP ticket. Also,those folks in Georgia who are White and Conservative did not want to put him in high office-only their own.
That sounds very sad, but the truth is, is that you're right. They used him, and I'm not even sure if he's realized it throughout his entire tenure of being with the GOP.
