The funny thing about social issues both sides are in agreement about controlling the American people the only difference is the liberals want to control what you say and think. Rarely do they show the tolerence they so vigorously support and conservatives want to control your body more specifically your reproductive organs how you should use them yet they're the party of less government control as long as their not the ones who are controlling you because then its ok. Right now we're experiencing extreme polorization on both sides of the parties in terms of social issues. As far as fiscal issues neither side have an opinion outside of what wall st. dictates. We're going through an era of weak leaders and a soft complacent populus. Its the first of its kid, it'll beinteresting to see how it turns out.
:smt038 I agree with you 100%. I have to be aligned ideologically with my partner and I could never be with someone who has right leaning tendencies. I work in government consulting, so it's REALLY tough to date someone with differing views, because politics takes up such a big part of my life. I think I can differ on some particular issues, but we can't be on opposite ends of the spectrum (which doesn't even sound possible to me). I mean, what would a white woman with doctrinaire conservative/traditional viewpoints be doing with a man from outside of her racial/social/ethnic group in the first place? I know it can happen, but even then she would more likely be centrist or moderately conservative than an actual conservative with a capital 'C'. You could ask Virginia Thomas, wife of Clarence Thomas?
If that person have the same conservative views, regardless of ethnic background, then it's really no problem there. Secondly, it's also imperative to know that just because someone label themselves conservative doesn't necessarily mean they align themselves with the mainstream or hardcore groups. Conservative could imply they are Goldwater Conservatives as opposed to the modern Bush/Reagan Conservatism.
yuuh, for me Im used to political discussions everytime family comes together.. cud never imagine a life where I wudn't discuss political events and what's going on in society with my husband.. Im not saying we must agree on everything, that wud be boring.. BUT if our main values aren't the same then it cud never work
That is a narrow definition of conservatism. Many times what you'll find is people inhabiting multiple places along the political spectrum depending on the issue. I generally distrust anyone who calls themselves liberal or conservative, as it probably isn't true in a holistic sense.
That may or may not be the case, but I can't take credit for the quote. I'm not the person who introduced it.
Which means they are still pro-choice. I'm talking about the people who are anti-choice across the boards..especially if they're men. And I have shot people down after finding out that they were anti-choice. I'm telling you- I am so staunchly pro-choice that it would make ya'll sick. lol ....ass. lol
I happen to not agree with a lot of their politics to begin with. They all were basically out to help corporations and let the 95% live out an illusion of assistance. Businesses basically held them high with tax cuts and tax cuts and more incentives. I'm VERY sure that I'm much more pro-choice AND more of a feminist than you'll ever be in your lifetime. Hahahah.
One side welcomes black folks while the other generally doesnt. And yes, I know theres an agenda on both sides. On paper youre 100% correct...both are FAR from perfect. In fact, I dont believe in this country's obsession with a two party system. But we cant ignore that culturally theres a division and if you read between the lines you'll notice where most of the intolerance lies.
It is hard to predict the future in these sort of cases. And even much harder to extrapolate from anecdotal cases. The proof of the pudding, in my thinking, is in the eating. As an individual, I have conservative and liberal views, and better still, I am also open to revise my priors, and evolve with the times based on rigorous and sound reason. If I was in the same situation, I would be more interested in whether she is amenable to reason, flexible, and show that willingness to evolve. Notwithstanding my opinion, I am aware that extreme cases exist on both sides of the political isle. Folks that wear these political ideologies like a religion. And religion, in many cases is a way of life, some might even kill for it. Here is where I have a problem about extremists. Dating should be an opportunity to acquire personal experience. I would welcome the idea with open arms.
I have "messed" with women who were different than I. But I've never been in a relationship seriously with someone who had different views than I.
It would depend how "extreme" they were in their views. Some social issues are just too polarising and I couldn't fully respect someone who held strong views that were contrary to my own on certain topics. Same goes for religion... religious views contrary to my own are fine, but when they're extreme... I can't go there.
