You're missing the point. The point of the scene is-

1. How some ppl race/ethnicity can be ambiguous (the kid could have passed as a middle eastern, a dark pakistani, a dark yellow hispanic, a dark jew)- hence the question "what is your back ground?"

2. Folks are willing to do business with you and your kind as long as you don't date their daughter (basically Tony's comment was I am willing to do business with bunch of egg plants as long as it makes me money but aint no way in hell my daughter is going to be touched by a mooley).

Thats the difference between Italian families in America and more WASPish families. WASPS mostly keep their racist comments to themselves or behind closed doors. Italians wear their racism proudly. Like it's a badge of honor to be that ignorant. It's clearly shown in that scene.
