Technically my background was Orthodox Christian more than anything but it is not how I was raised, other than cultural association (one parent from Serbia, orthodox the other from Ireland,catholic, me born in Aussie!)

It's fairly common here in Australia. We have many people practising many faiths of course, but some type of agnosticism is very common.

 

I have been an atheist for close to three years and I've been lucky to meet some like minded people as well as people willing to have a civilized debate about it all.

All I can do is say how I feel about the whole god or no god subject. I don't try to change anyones mind, thats for them to figure out for themselves. Thats what worked for me.

 

Good to see you here. But if you don't mind, please share your story as to what brought about your revelation that there's no god.

 

The only thing I believe in is karma. Some may refer to that as a higher power I guess but I don't believe in any God(s). I was baptizes Protestant/Christian as a baby and took 14 years of Protestant religion classes-religious education is mandatory in Germany,and you can usually just pick between Ethics,Protestant religion or Catholic religion- but also ended up coming to the conclusion that's all not for me and not making so much sense.

 

karma ,a myth ?

i have thought about karma before ,i came to the conclusion it's all in our minds.
good things ,bad things happen all the time. doesn't matter who.
bad things happen to good people ,bad things happen to innocent people, kids,
infants .... this world is not always fair . I know a guy who has been screwing over women for years ,he takes all their money then throws them to the curb.
nothing has ever happen to him.....that i can say is really bad.
you can say "well its coming" but what about all the women he screwed over?
anyway ,i believe in treating people how you want to be treated , weather
karma exist or not .

 

I don't believe in a god of any kind and never have. I was brought up without any kind of religious influence at home(no-one in my family ever expressed an opinion either way) and learned about Christianity and later other religions in school.

At some point, maybe ten years old, I asked if I could go to Sunday school because a friend did, my parents let me go, but I only went once and had no interest in returning.

 

So how do you believe that reality came into being?

 

What makes you assume I have an opinion on it? It's not something we can prove or in my view have a hard opinion on because we just don't know. Anything we date, we're dating based on opinions we've already formed that lead us to believe xyz.

I haven't spent any great amount thinking about it, tbh, it's not high on my list of questions that need answering.

There's no great feeling than being god. so why worship one? It's comparable to a person who's in a state of sadness, spending his life worshipping another person who's in a higher state of happiness. why worship your potential? Just rise up.

 

We definitely have that complex. The God Complex is innate and we can't really avoid that part of ourselves.

Hmmm, when thinking about it...you do have a point. But, the frontal lobe basically exercises the part where judgment is concerned. So in a way, yes, the aspect of the God Complex is learned, but at the same time part of the brain where we judge others based on certain differential features.
