Paniro are you able to do that? Can you make the distinction between income tax and sales tax?

No, this is wrong. Tax breaks/cuts have been given for the wealthy people in this country. That is why there's income inequality in the country. They are paying a lower share of income taxe, while people who earn less actually pay more in income tax. Sales tax is a fixed percentage, based on what state you are in.

True, everyone does pay some sort of tax. however, the vast majority of revenue for the Federal government comes from personal Income tax. Sales tax, which is a form of a flat or Value Added Tax (VAT) goes to the state and/or local governments. Many States and localities also have an Income tax as well.

A flat or VAT would require a major overhaul of the tax system but it would make filing annual taxes much easier. That said, there are significant problems with a flat tax: everyone pays the same tax percentage. This could hurt the families in the lower income bracket that currently benefit from tax breaks at the lower income levels. True it's the same percentage, but someone making $30,000/yr would likely hurt more in paying the flat tax than someone making $300,000/yr.

I think several European countries have adopted a VAT which seems to work pretty well. Not saying there aren't downsides... [/QUOTE]

The federal income tax is not the only type of income tax that exists in America. There are several other types of income taxes which include the capital gains income tax, corporate income tax, social security income tax, medicare income tax, and a form of taxes if you are self-employed and own your own business.

They are. There is a "squeeze" within the middle class, Paniro. People have been saying that. If action isn't taken soon, it could push the country to a point where the people in it are either wealthy or poor. That is why tax reform (in Obama's favor) needs to occur before August 2nd.

Paniro, he's right. Forget about the ideologies for a second. If an agreement is not reached, the nation its self will "shut down" because the country's "credit card" would be cut off. This is not about Conservatives and Liberals, this is about the well being of the American people.

Well, the conservatives aided and abetted slavery,Jim crow, and Apartheid. None of the White ones supported King or anyone in the Civil Rights movement and mostly they did not let Black men date White women. Today they going for Voter I.D. and other oppressive moves. So I have not seen a Conservative or their subservient Negros advance the rights of Blacks.

does anyone realize that everyday were a inching closing to becoming a "banana republic where there is a huge divide between the rich and the poor similar to feudal europe with the lords, vasal, kings, serfs, etc.

Banana republic is a pejorative term that refers to a politically unstable country dependent upon limited primary productions (e.g. bananas), and ruled by a small, self-elected, wealthy, corrupt politico-economic plutocracy or oligarchy. Plutocracy is rule by the wealthy, or power provided by wealth.
Oligarchy: system of government of ruled by the few. The combo of the two is called a plutarchy.
