I like Green Day (as my posts to the "What are you listening to" thread prove), but I don't think I'd rate them as the best ever.

The Ramones since they are regarded as the band that inspired all others that followed.

 

I don't even consider Green Day punk. And even if think they were, not the best. Sex Pistols, Ramones and Misfits are up there and Iggy Pop of course. I omit Clash because I think they not really really punk (ducks) lol, hey, its just my opinion).

That would be my pick. If I'm not mistaken, I think Billie Joe Armstrong named his first kid after Joey Ramone, so I expect he'd be Ok with it too.
