No there are just some dumb people who refuse to try anything outside of what they are comfortable with. Its down right sad but unfortunately they don't know they're dumb. They all swear they are either more intelligent or morally superior so they have the right to be assholes. At this point I just distance myself from those kind of people and focus on my own development. I butt heads with everyone but I think we all have common ground on other subjects. Me and Paniro will never agree on politics and thats cool but I do enjoy is tips on working out since I've gotten back into recently. You and I don't see eye to eye on gender issues but we have a common view of justice over all. Hell I think BBW and I think very a like on most intellectual topics but are on completely different sides of the spectrum when it comes to spirituality and science. And don't even get me started on DB lol. I just don't hold a grudge because seriously who benefits from shit like that.
Just let him get more rope. I don't even know why felt the need to correct him kid. Because he doesn't grasp the concept of INCOME tax.
If he ever falls on hard times and earns 0, I need him to know not to wait by the mailbox for the tax return.
And some of us started out middle class, and got lost along the way (my dad died in 1970, when my mother couldnt get a good paying job), and found our way back WITHOUT losing the compassion and understanding that we found during the journey. This BS about how one fell on hard times and managed entirely by oneself is unmitigated fantasy. When I was divorced, went to work, and it became clear my ex wasnt about to pay child support, I found a career and became quite successful. BUT, I was always cognizant of the privilege I had in getting there. I was white, articulate, intelligent, and fell into IT back when no one cared whether you had a degree or not as long as you could learn the work. I'm also one of the most stubborn people on the planet. Those things were sheer LUCK, not things I "did." Sure, I did the work, but I had the opportunity because of a lot of things I had no control over, like my color, my intelligence, the need of the market at the time, etc. I also only had one child - things would have been quite different if I'd had 4. This shit doesnt happen in a vacuum.
What high paying jobs? They want this country to be a bunch of wage earning laborers. Are education system proves that without a doubt.
Cancer Diabetes Stabbed and been homeless yet I'm still here. Oh can't forget the head on collision that required the jaws of life. And I don't even think I've had it tough. I come from a third world background and I've seen what tough is so go ahead and keep thinking you really over came shit playboy
So fact and opinion is synonymous with one another? This is what you wrote in your previous response: Believing different is not the same as having facts, man. There is no excuse for you to ignore factual information presented, especially when it's through a chart compiled by an official agency and when it's consistent with others. You see things different, but you're unwilling to admit you're wrong and you're holding onto it deeply.
You had a car. You had intelligence, of a sort at least. You had clothes on your back. You had health. You were not the sole provider for a troop of kids. You knew your family was in a position to at least *FEED* you if things got that bad, which gave you a mental safety net, so your fear was lessened. You had the ability to get a job. You had the ability to fix cars. Talk about missing the point, paniro.
Of course. I didn't neglect that aspect out of spite. I wanted to be general and say that people who experienced growing up poor all their life have been tax paying citizens, so anyone who speaks otherwise are talking out of their asses. I'm aware that people can gain a lot and lose a lot as well, but still...we all pay taxes.
You can't interpret facts. Facts are concrete and evident and cannot be disputed. Your statement makes zero sense and you're only making yourself seem desperate to get out of a losing argument. That there is the issue here.
Yeah, BBW, but missing my main point there, which is experiencing difficulty CAN, if one is paying attention, lead to a more compassionate perspective. If it doesn't, in my opinion, you're being blind. And in this case, I think paniro is being blind, regardless of his story about an old car and a divorce.
He won't get it. You know how many times its occured to me that I was decision away from growing up in a house with no floor and an out house. One decision away from picking ginup and mangos for food. Some people truly believe in shit like manifest destiny or divine intervention. They don't understand things like opportunity until its completely taken away from them
No, not everyone has the SKILL required to get a job, or the health to work one. You're still missing the point, which is that your story of being "destitute" and managing all on your own was as much bullshit as if I said I'd done all this on MY own.
That is true. People can't really relate well, especially those who do have some bit of financial safety net. Paniro, facts are meant to be interpreted in one way or another. They're not the same as opinions. That's a silly comment to make and you're only pushing yourself off a cliff faster. And go ahead...it simply means you're incapable of accepting that you're wrong in the matter. No worries.
Everyone might have the ability but not everyone has the opportunity. Again right now there are 5 applicants for every one job. Where do the other 4 go? Where do they work? Should they just do you a favor and kill themselves. I mean they are unemployed so they don't have the right to live right?
Exactly! I could have easily wound up waiting tables for a living, which would probably NOT have resulted in a 6 figure salary, putting a child through college without loans, a home of my own, etc. Sure, I did the work, but the opportunities I had played a huge role in that. Manifest destiny makes me snort in derision. Success isn't a reward for being a "good person" it's a result of luck/work/privilege all together. Some of the people here don't get that there's more privilege at work in the world than racial privilege. Health is a privilege. Being smart is a privilege. Being able to work hard, being at the right place at the right time...all those things are a matter of luck and privilege. Like I said before, it's hard to pull yourself up by your bootstraps if you don't have boots.
Hahaha, you're right. I meant to specifically imply that information like this cannot be disputed especially when the numbers of working class exceeds the wealthy population. A pyramid, it is.
