If your kid lives with you, he or she lives your lifestyle. Are they entitled to less because they don't? I disagree that we "all know" what excessive is. It differs depending on the financial status of the parent. Lots of working class parents would think what I did was excessive. Lots of rich parents would have thought I didn't do enough. And yes, if you live with your kid you can make them sleep in tiny bedroom deprive them of toys, go to a crappy school, whatever you like as long as it doesnt meet the legal definition of neglect or abuse. When you are no longer, or never have been, married to the child's other parent, the state gets involved and the decision to make your child live as though you were a manual laborer when you're a millionaire is taken out of your hands. That's how the law works. Lesson: Don't have kids out of wedlock and marry someone you can love and/or work with for 20 years. The state makes the decisions they consider to be in the best interests of the child, and the state thinks the best interest is served by allowing the child to live the best lifestyle the parents can afford.
Dude that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. So basically if I live well not onl;y are my kids entitled to live well which I agree with but they are entitled to ownership of my property? That's ridiculous.
I tell you what. If you are worried that your kids will have ownership of your property when you die, I will be a friend. I'll take the burden of having ownership of your property. It what a true friend would do. This is a waste of time topic. No one has to give their kids anything when they die. Just don't include them in your will.
I'm not sure he's talking about after he's dead, but I'm honestly lost as I don't see that Pixie was referencing property transfer in her post? At any rate, you are correct, as long as you have a will in place upon your death, you get to choose who gets what. Though I have to say, I cannot imagine not including my children in my will. I just redid mine and there are only 3 people I really wanted to ensure were taken care of, and 2 of them are my children. I would never leave them out, just like I would always support them while I'm alive, I need to know I leave them in good shape when I'm gone.
I agree but how good a shape. In this particular case where does it stop.100 million 200 million it just seems out of control
Well who you gonna leave it to if you don't leave it to your children? I mean of course some goes to charity, perhaps other family members, though in my case I decided against that. I would want the bulk of it to go to my children regardless of whether we're talking 1 million or 1 billion. I'm sure not leaving it to my dogs.
Elementary arithmetic, mr. math teacher. Why not carpentry, welding or something of that sort. Worst thing that could happen would be lose a limb or something as opposed to fucking up a child's or children's academic future, dumb-ass.
Not ownership. They are entitled to support at the best level you are financially capable of providing.
Heel Queen.....there is only ONE Arch......that imposter's proper nick- name is Angel.......and so, I will acept this compliment as rightfully mine...........Thankyou !..........
My apologies Arch, I wasn't feeling well last night, so it's a wonder I got anyone's name right. In fact this is a small error compared to calling my son by his father's first name last night... got quite a talking to for that one. :smt042 I'll try to make sure that doesn't happen again.
