I think that if you had grown up in the South you might have some appreciation for how ingrained racism is, even with reference to places, common items and terminology. Areas where African Americans lived were commonly referred to as "N-town". Local landmarks were given names based on some associations with African Americans. So, a local many local landmarks took on the prefix. Note the story to the link (http://gawker.com/5823761/new-york-state-gets-around-to-renaming-nigger-lake). I remember many years ago hearing a lady in Alabama refer to the term jury rigging as N-rigging. In the building trades, a material that was similar to a black particle board was commonly known as N-board. Also, those large nuts that are most often eaten around Christmas, Brazil nuts, have always been referred to as, N-toes. So, how's that for a bit of enlightenment...
It's not "Jury-rigging" now, it's "jerry-rigging", as in, a guy that comes around to your house to fix something, or a handyman, and does a half-ass job. It has nothing to do with the law. It started out as a sailing term, but the common term is "jerry-rigging", which still can have racist connotations, for whatever reason, probably for the association with the n-word, which followed after. Yes, it is an unfortunate, rotten term (n*****-rigging), and I do not advocate it, like I said. What the fuck is "particular board"? Oh, you must mean "particle board".:smt081
Well, one out of two isn't bad..I did make a typo and I meant particle board. I'm sure that if I scrutinize your posts I could find similar typos. As to your other comment, you are totally wrong, as is usually the case. Jury rigging has nothing to do with a jury and everything to do with make-shift work of any sort, just as I meant it. Perhaps, you should have consulted a dictionary before attempting to correct me. But, then, once again, your post serves to show your arrogance and that you would go to any lengths to one-up me after not being able to provide a cogent response to my comments about your last bit of non-sense. Once again, in your encounters with me, the jokes on you... Btw, just to help you out since you have trouble doing a bit of research: u·ry-rig? ?[joor-ee-rig] Show IPA noun, verb, -rigged, -rig·ging. noun 1. Nautical . a temporary rig to replace a permanent rig that has been disabled, lost overboard, etc. 2. any makeshift arrangement of machinery or the like.
You didn't enlighten me, I knew most of what you posted already. I'm from the South and currently live in the DMV. I spent my summers as a kid in Arkansas and Texas visiting my kinfolk, and I've NEVER heard of the term 'niggerhead'.
Niggerhead? Seriously? And yet conservative GOP members wonder why their own party has a hard time shaking off the reputation of being racist.
Sadly, I think he's so arrogant that he probably believes that there's no real need for damage control...after all, he's the almighty Rick Perry.
Hahaha, he "tried" apparently. Even after GOP contender, Herman Cain actually lambasted him outright.
He's utterly clueless. He was here in New Orleans months back and when I saw him in person, I swore I smelled smoke and pickles from his odor.
That he is, but he's too stupid to know how stupid he is. Gross... I wouldn't want to be anywhere near him as it it; I certainly wouldn't want to be close enough to smell him.
I went undercover at the SRLC in New Orleans posing as a white GOP member. Believe me, I felt too unsettling having to crop myself there, even in disguise.
True. It is even international here is the link. http://www.ga.gov.au/bin/gazd01?rec=145413 Today, Nigger Head is a small island in Queensland, Australia in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Coral outcrops were previously known as Niggerheads by British sailors and the area is known for its coral outcrops. The term is even found in some modern literature written by former British sailors such as Ian Fleming the creator of James Bond. The term usually applied to rounded off rocks. Horrible but, I don't think it surprises most of us from the South at all.
