Obama Wipeout Republican Party

Neither do I. Being pro-economic growth or in favor of low taxes is one thing, but all that identity politics, extreme nationalism and chauvinism don't belong in a forward-looking nation.

 

Somehow Republicans think those who voted for Obama didnt vote according to issues. Romney said people who voted for Obama did it to get gifts, John Sununu said Colin Powell supported Obama because he was black. What they fail to see is the fact that as a person Obama has better attributes than Romney. When you say you would make it so hard that illegals would self deport themselves, the legal latino who has a relative who will be affected takes note of that, if you say stuff like legitimate rape, women take note of that, if you say you would cut funding to planned parenthood the single young woman takes note of that, if you say you would repeal Obamacare, people who would be affected take notice, if you say Obama was not born in America and is a muslim terrorist, moderate muslims take note of that. All these people took note of the vile crap from the right wingers and decided to vote against them. They voted based on ISSUES, yet our resident republican jameswilson claims they do not have the intellectual capacity to do so. I urge Republicans to keep it up since it will make it easier for Democrats to stay in Government for a looong time.

 

Eye of Ra,you are spot on. The criticism of Obama is way beyond what Clinton had endured in his four years. There was talk on gun control but beyond that is the Republican demand for voter ID's,secession,birther movements,and "taking out country back." Plus,from day one in his first administration those people stopped at nothing to bring Obama down. The Republican Congress do their cowardly acts and demands with the purpose of disrespecting the President because of his race. Even some Republicans said the party was doing too much. A Black person is stupid to hang with the tea baggers who diss Obama which they will diss him/her beyond their back.

 

Yes, I would not say the majority but a significant portion of the voting public votes off what they have seen on TV, heard on the radio, or have been told by family. I would say a smaller portion of voters visit websites to view voting records or read the detailed plans that candidates put out.

But I believe that both parties have the best interest of the country in mind. They just go about doing it in two different ways. The problem is that individuals within the party may not always be qualified or have the best interest of the public...and that is where the problem really is.

Even when you look at all the social programs the United States currently has. All of them have some good for society. I think the thing that frustrates me is that Republicans are painted as evil people for wanting to cut funding to certain programs to balance the budget. If I asked you whether you wanted to cut funding for the elderly or food programs for kids...which would you choose? Either way you will have someone mad at you. When times are tough in my house, I might have to stop spending on certain things to fit my budget. I feel it shouldn't be any different for the government.

 

If you read my posts I said that if you voted for Obama because you read up on his economic plans and felt he was the right man to lead the country then by all means I applaud you. But if you based your decision because of what you hear on TV, the radio, or what your family told you then I think that makes an uneducated voter. That goes for both parties!!

Also, I said there is a difference between the party and the candidates. I agree with the Republican party values and economic ideals. I don't always agree with the candidates. Some guys can say some bonehead things, but that doesn't make the party bad. Some Democrats have said some bonehead things too.

And I just want to address some issues you raised:

1) Look at the first word in illegal aliens..."illegal". We have around 12-14 million illegal immigrants in this country. Romney supports legal immigration as does everyone else. It's not fair to someone who took the time to go through all of the proper ways to come to this country legally. Not to mention if they came through legally we would have 12-14 million more people in our system where we could collect taxes.

2) Romney saying he would cut funding to Planned Parenthood was because the United States gives $300 million in federal dollars to them. But since Planned Parenthood does abortions, you cannot issue federal dollars to them because it violates the law.

 

Good. I urge the next Republican Candidate to do the same thing. The fact that something seems right doesnt make it prudent. The voter is human and would vote for issues which are beneficial to him/her first.

 

It's fear based. As I said before Obama is no liberal. But the hard line right has spent 30 years consolidating further and further out on the fringe, so a central right kind of person looks liberal to them. They are afraid of change. They're afraid of women owning their own power. Terrified gays will have the same rights they do...and the idea that a black guy is president is just an affront to every thing they believe in - which is white male straight Christian privilege.

If you've always had all the cookies, when suddenly you only have 75 and everyone else is sharing 25, it still seems like a loss to you. And when those sharing the twenty five are people you've been taught to think of as lesser than yourself, like women, gays and black men....it feels like a slap in the face. You've grown to think you deserve ALL the cookies, so the only way anyone else can be getting them is by stealing and/or some vast conspiracy.

 

No it doesn't. Federal funds cannot be used for abortion, period. They must keep the funds entirely separate. Federal funds to Planned Parenthood can be used for prenatal care, contraceptive care (including vasectomies on men), and well-woman care. Those funds are already NOT used for abortion.

If you look at my post I said federal funds cannot be used on abortions, so we agree. Even though Planned Parenthood could use federal funds on other procedures or care, there is no way to verify that is where the funds are going. So they must either stop performing abortions or stop receiving federal funds.

P.S.- This is a not a statement on abortion in any way, this is merely looking at the letter of the law as it pertains to using federal money

 

Yes, there are ways to verify. That's a requirement.

 

Since they receive about $1 billion annually in fundraising, they can say that federal dollars are not being used on abortions. But they are just designating that on a piece of paper, but obviously there is no real way to know if those dollars are being used on those procedures since everything is done from one pool of money. They could resolve this by opening a separate company (Example: Planned Parenthood Federal) which would have its own balance sheet and set of services & procedures.
