Those "progressive government programs" are not the main reason for our self destructive ways. Those of us who have achieved any success, no matter how small and have chosen to only look out for themselves (and usually sign on to many of the very conservative ideas that also do nothing to help black people to better themselves) also bear some responsibility. The deck is still stacked against us on many fronts despite the advances made in the last few decades. The fact that certain elements in American society want to roll back the clock in many ways and make some of those advances all but null & void is proof of that.

 

What's scary is that guy is the future of the Republican party.
They should have kicked that guy out.

I agree with most of what you said. The bolded statement is where our views diverge. I can find enough counter-examples to the idea that we cannot rise above the prejudice against our race to know that you limit yourself If you believe that race in America is like caste in India and your station in life is largely dependant upon race.

 

i believe he means that no matter how high you get (ie the president), you'll always be judged based on your skin

you're not limiting yourself per se with that attitude....if anything you are showing cultural awareness

there are still racist people with money and power that continue to work against blacks

but yeah...don't lower expectations of yourself though...always stay positive and reach beyond those mothafuckin stars

i saw hsspeech and I saw him on a couple of the sunday morning talk shows....he came off as..... well....one of three things

1)not knowing he is getting played

2) just giving talking points and not really looking at all the angles of it all

3) just idealistic

That's what I said. Unlike you however I'm not putting every thing on "progressive" thinking as the bane of the black man because "conservative" thinking is also just as harmful to black people.

 

If it werent for progressives and social programs blacks would still be living under Jim Crow believe that. Pulling yourself up by the bootstraps doesnt work wgen businesses have "no work for blacks" signs. Its amazing how soon we forget.

 

That's why I point out that the black folks that subscribe to conservative thinking and don't give back or care about the black community to help fix all the progressive things that they see as what's causing the failure of the black community are just as responsible as those that choose to abuse social programs. Lead by fucking example. If you made it & claim it's so easy, then show the fuck ups how to better themselves so they can stop fucking up & embarrassing your black ass (if that's how they feel) rather than complain about them & condemn them. That's my motto anyway.

 

Its an absolute fact. There was no economic advantage to allowing the disenfranchised into the economy. Denial of access is how the wealthy stay wealthy not to mention it was greater job security for whites to not have to compete with us for unskilled labor. It's very much like the illegal immigrant problem we have right now. An under class of people you can treat anyway you want and pay them whatever you want. Without government regular people wouldn't act in the interest of the disenfranchised, they have absolutely no incentive to do so.
