I was part Cherokee. But, the tribe, in the late 1980's decided to cut out black people who were born with the "one drop rule." This country was saturated with the blood of many Native American tribes. Some were wiped out completely. And yes, some tribes did have black slaves. I have met Native Americans. They are cool. They may be suspicious of strangers, but like everyone else, they are all right when you get to know them.
Most people don't know that paddyrollers were the origination of law enforcement in the US.While white people are now saying police are brutal because they're also getting the beatings.Before that law enforcement could do no wrong but now its a travesty when its you getting beat down.But law enforcement has always been against blacks since its origin. Law enforcement has always been made up of low to middle class whites that do the work of the elite. OWS being the most obvious example. Any real populist criticism against the elite will get shut down.
Unless revolution is achieved and at some point we're going to have to relinquish our comfortable lives and fight or die.
Hmmmm.... it's hard to agree with most of this although I can empathize with the sentiment and can agree, in part, with facts. Having a background in law enforcement I can say , there are some of the best and most awful people I've ever encountered in the profession. Unfortunately, there seem to be more awful people or ones who cause such a blight that the best are often unable to do what is needed. Police brutality is unacceptable and has long been a problem for minority communities. Law enforcement agencies are leaning towards hiring and promoting more educated people now and that's a definite positive trend. I can't say tha I agree on the whole with populist criticism being shut down. Populist criticism and participation by the masses is one of the most effective ways to effect change. There's just too much apathy, self involvement/entitlement and lack of participation in these areas for these changes to occur right now.
Law enforcement probably could be cleaned up if there wasn't this gang mentality/blue wall of silence for corruption. I don't think hiring or promoting educated people will do anything because its the whole system. Tougher penalties for public servants and a civilian oversight committee would definitely help. Populist criticism was shutdown.The politicians and law enforcement of each city that had OWS protests rounded them up and shut them down.There was no coverage by major US networks of OWS when it began for weeks.Keith Olbermann was the person that finally brought that up.By the time they did cover it because it was all over independent news,social media,etc. They wrote it off as hippies wanting free stuff.These are the tactics you see in countries that US criticizes for cracking down on protesters. Basically they used all the systems put in place to protect us from terrorism against the citizens.
OWS is just the latest . There an and should be more but it's up to the populace to care. I am and have always been polically liberal, which is strange in my circles and background . Most people I know though say they don't care or have an interest in politics, even most of my close friends. This carries over into very little to no interest in social reforms and issues and many other things. The apathy is just maddening. Too much information overload maybe?
Things aren't bad enough yet. I often wonder what will happen in a country rich with information and guns once shit truly hits the fan. Complete and utter anarchy is my guess. Unfortunately change is bought with blood and the debt is going to require tens of millions of lives this time. We are too fucking stupid to understand anything else.
Apathy is common in most countries and most people hate politics and will ignore political issues until it directly influences their livelihood. As long as people are comfortable they will ignore all the problems around them. Most revolts,populist anger,etc is sparked by random events or economic collapse.Its usually only successful once the tools of suppression such as law enforcement,military,etc join with the populist or are crushed by them.We saw that in Egypt when the military overthrew the government instead of firing on the people. The tools of the elites usually only turn against them when they realize they're in the same boat as everyone else and the elites are treating them like nothing more than dogs.
Well you have to consider what was different about the US vs. other countries especially Latin American countries. The Illegalization of Interracial Marriage. A class system existed among whites in Colonial British America. But when the poor whites joined forces and intermarried with blacks they brought down Jamestown. Wealthy white plantation owners had to separate them. Pit them against each other so poor whites would control blacks for the wealthy whites. They even went as far as forcing pastors to teach hate. They were defrocked if they didn't. If they went against those wealthy plantation owners and married ppl interracialy. As long as we see each other as "diffrent" it will always be deeply ingrained.
Of all the rich people (wealth of 25 million+) I bet there is a much lower percentage of them that are racist. They have better things to think about like making more money. Most of the people in their circle are rich as well, so why would they care about skin color?? If they do care about skin color it is simply to play the game. I know there are exceptions to every rule, but I am willing to bet the people who truly have hatred in their hearts are an element of the every day working people. Funny how some people have nothing to think about other than negativity. All it takes is an elementary understanding of physics to see how silly it is to judge someone based on skin tone. Whatever though, if they don't hate you for your race they will find another reason. That's why the initial idea of racism was clever, it gave the most pathetic people a reason to hate someone.
This statement transcends racism and brings us to what is truly the largest problem with this country; CAPITALISM. We have a government that protects corporate interests before it's peoples interests. We have an unconscious populous who believe that their success as a human being is contingent on their success in the corporate world.... and we will do whatever it takes to strive to reach socio-economic equality with our wealthy 'leadership'. We believe that owning a Mercedes declares to on-lookers that we have a certain level of wealth which we often do not. We believe that through financial lavishness and keeping up with the Joneses that others will see us as having an equal or greater influence than we really have. In actuality, the money that we spend these symbols of our supposed wealth is making those who really DO have the wealth wealthier while we are making ourselves more poor and therefore widening the divide between the wealthy and middle-class. How does this relate to this topic? As was previously stated in this thread, the wealthy whites have convinced the middle-class and poor whites that racial superiority is of utmost interest. You can go to any news article on the internet about black on black crime and you'll see poor uneducated whites throwing the n word around while looking down on poor uneducated blacks, while bragging about the successes of the 'white race' driven by whites far more accomplished than themselves. These whites so brainwashed that they are unable to realize that they have FAR more in common with their poor black brethren than they do with other wealthy whites. These 'common' whites aren't on business trips with $100+ /day eating stipends eating foie gras, prime cut steaks and lobster. They are in the local grocery store just like the 'common' blacks trying to figure out how to stretch $50 until their next payday. To them, it is more productive to spew racial insensitivities and proclaim their superiority completely failing to realize that they are in the very same boat as those that they proclaim their superiority over. As long as middle-class and poor whites see their whiteness as de facto achievement of the 'American Dream' the capitalist overseers have achieved just what they need to keep their interests unchallenged. Blacks? Well... I've learned not to mention the issues concerning the black community around here. If MLK, Kwame Toure, Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X cannot achieve black unity and consciousness. Our 'communities' have become so blind and brainwashed that we've actually taken steps backward in the past 50 years. We embrace ignorance and foolishness while mocking education and excellence. Capitalist america gives a few of us a fistful of peanuts and we brag about how we are 'makin dat money'. The CIA flooded our ghetto's with drugs to fund government interests overseas in the early 80's and the culture that this helped to create in our communities has grown into what america sees and we accept as our culture. Currently, only a fraction of our community is equipped with the education and values necessary to pose a threat to our modern-day oppressors.
