It's easy to fuck up over there. And they're quick to hang onto foreigners who get out of line. And considering rodman's flippancy when asked about another american being held in North Korea (missionary Kenneth Bae, who got 15 years), I don't think bill clinton or anyone will go retrieve him if he fucks up. "Guess what? That's not my job to ask about Kenneth Bae... Ask Obama about that, ask Hillary Clinton about that. Ask those assholes." Rodman will be going back on his fourth trip on January 8 for an exhibition basketball game. Nice vice document about one of his earlier visits below:
tell that to kenneth bae. ...Or (a lil easier), journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee. Remember when clinton had to rescue them in 2009?
Medulla Thanx for the Vid Probably one of the very well done documentaries that I have seen this past year. Thanx
laura ling and euna lee were not supposed to be in north Korea...they were in china doing a story about all the Koreans that were fleeing the country...they were captured by the north Koreans and held captive for 140 days...even for a famous as Laura Ling's sister Lisa is in the news world the north Koreans thought they were spies... I highly doubt that Rodman would be detained
Rodman is just crazy enough...he thinks that he is some self appointed ambassador to North Korea...I often wonder if the translators actually tell the dictator what he says...lol
Probably not lol If he's really trying to open relations with the us and n Korea tho, more power to him
no prob. Lot of good stuff out there these days! If you're interested in north korea, here's another good one: "friends of kim," about a group of western supporters of north korea visiting the country. Vice also did an earlier documentary about north korea before the one with rodman, btw.
Interesting that you say that Note that in the part of the doc where rodman makes a speech (at the basketball game I think), vice offers no subtitles for how the translator interprets rodman's first two statements. Likely bcs the interpeter gets it verbatim... ..however for rodman's third statement, they show what the interpreter says and it differs significantly with what rodman said
I remember the Barbara Walters interview. When Robin said that Mike was a "manic depressive," Mike looked like he honestly was not expecting that. And I was surprised when he talked about his encounter with Brad Pitt.
gorath, your knowledge of pop culture and mass media is encyclopedic. Does your work center around that? You should prolly get a blog going or something. Hollywood from a bm's perspective or something
