This is a series speaking primarily on the social changes regarding generational attitudes toward certain things where we, at one point, held a more conservative position on the matter. Sometimes, it's worth noting that such changes can be referenced to earlier events that may lead to something else. MARRIAGE EQUALITY With DOMA struck down by the Supreme Court last year, we're witnessing a blitzkrieg of sorts regarding the cultural changes, not just in our attitudes, but with the laws. Just recently Utah and Tennessee could be the next two states to allow same-sex marriage, pending the courts after the State Supreme Court judges struck down anti-same sex marriage laws in both of those states. Because of the whole ordeal, there has been a great deal of backlash from many conservative minded individuals...and some who support the idea of calling such bans unconstitutional. This is most significant because we're now venturing into the Bible Belt territory, where social conservatism is most heavy and of course, the laws are more biblical and based more on religious values. But, the younger generation, while some still holding some traditions leftover from their matriarchs and patriarchs, they have, in some cases, evolved on the social areas and marriage equality being one of them. Sure, some would accept civil unions, but many would prefer that they get all of the benefits and recognition from the governing bodies. And yet, there are still loud voices who prefer that such things be permanently barred, even as far as making it punishable by death, just like in many African and Middle Eastern countries. It's only the beginning, but I think once Mississippi have their laws struck down, may the belt experience a transition into modern age logic. So with this, I ask you all... Do you think you will see same-sex marriage legalized in all 50 states within your lifetime? Why or why not? Does it mean we'll wind up opening the prospects of plural marriages being legalized and more openly practiced? Where does it go from there?

From a legal perspective the momentum of same-sex marriage will continue as more and more precedents are set. As far as plural marriage, and the recent partial victory for polygamy in Utah, Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, who represents the reality TV stars "Sister Wives," and is seeking to completely overturn a Utah law that effectively bans polygamy. Turley said that polygamy is now where gay marriage was a decade ago, , which stopped states from prohibiting sexual acts between same-sex couples. The implication is that polygamy will move forward in time. "You cannot defend a new civil liberty, while denying it to others. I think there's a grander more magnificent trend that can see in the law and that is this right to be left alone," Turley said.
