The point being, a guy like Sherman, who has an impeccable life track record is being called something that he's clearly not. That word is associated with people who look or share features perceived to be thuggish. And don't get me wrong, Bieber can be compared to people like MJ or even craptacular Elvis Presley, but he still has his millions, his fans, but despite the criminal record, he's still referred to as a misguided kid and it's all because he doesn't "look" thuggish.
If you're a White guy who doesn't look like he could whup someone's ass, you'll never be referred to as a 'thug' unless you're a straight up criminal who's packing. Sherman may not fit the textbook definition of a thug, but Justin Bieber really doesn't either. For instance, everyone refers to Aaron Hernandez as a thug, and rightly so. I will say that Richard Sherman has a thuggish personality on the football field. He should own it.
