I agree with you but that won't happen. We will have to pay in and congress will cut benefits. It isn't if it is when.

who works for sixty years? Its more like forty and to be fair people who don't save for retirement are really misinformed they think this system will pay for them because they believe they paid for others. Also when the cost of living out paces earnings its really hard to save for the future when you are barely surviving. Not to mention all the older people who lost nearly everything in the crash by no fault of their own.

I agree with everything you said. I understand there are exceptions to the rule. You could be in your late 50's and have done everything right but cancer struck or something. They should be on the social net. I don't think that is the case for most Americans. I also agree about the inflation. I have been struggling to get ahead of it myself. It is a tough thing to do. I've always felt that the government never addressed inflation. It is easier to say we need higher pay. That doesn't fix the inflation issue. It just kicks it down the road.

NOte: I have completely derailed this thread to something that is viable but I feel bad for doing. lol I'll probably excuse myself and let the whole thing go about to what MS intended it to be.

I wonder why the people who professed to be pro-life did not pass laws for paid maturnity leave or well funded day care centers for employees?

    1. Unfortunately, I see the conservative right gaining momentum and doing even more damage, revving up the rhetoric leading up to elections.

    2. There will always be the need for abortions. Education and access to family planning resources would minimize it.

    3. There's a Grand Canyon-size gap between those two as is the case with conservatives and other human rights issues. As long as social policies are built based on religious beliefs, the divide will remain.

Keeping someones alive as an incubator for that long is absolute madness, how many months was she pregnant I wonder.
Surely if the baby isn't viable at the time of the accident or whatever happened to the mother this does not make sense.

Who is paying the bill to keep her artificially alive and who will care for this potentially disabled child?
These people who make these rules and believe in god, do they seriously think God! would keep a dead woman alive for months to deliver a child that will never know it's Mother or may be severely impaired or not survive at all.

Making a family suffer in such a manner is pretty messed up, they cannot grieve, they can't do anything

Doesn't sound like gods plan to me:(

I agree. That isn't God's plan. Pregnant women die all the time. Is it horrible. Absolutely. But, I still think science interferes sometimes when it shouldn't.

No person should be artificially kept alive to incubate a baby. That's horrible for all involved. It's like pod people or something.

Yesterday is the first time I've been confronted with a situation happening to someone close to me, where I affirmed her decision to get an abortion. But that was largely because the doctors said that, barring a miracle, there was no hope for the baby to sustain life outside the womb. The baby is still alive, but has only a heart and a brain. No other internal organs. How heartbreaking. It would've been too traumatic to carry the baby to term knowing it wouldn't survive.

I am pro commonsense. If my daughter is raped by a drunken idiot or violent person or for that matter anybody and she gets pregnant i would support her 100% to abort it. Do i support late term abortion? No. Would i advice her against late term abortion? Yes since it could put her life in danger. What i wouldn't do is to use some religious cockamamie to tell her that Jesus loves little children so she should go ahead and give birth if she is raped.

It's amusing that the religious freaks who would like to ban abortion are the same ones who don't want sex-ed in schools.

I live in the bible belt ....I got a call from the school because my 9 year old asked a question during puberty class that 'alarmed' them. She asked, "Could you still get pregnant if you haven't had your period?" I was like....WTF is alarming about that? She asked why girls have periods and I told her so they're able to have babies. Maybe I'm warped cus I'm a nurse and will answer any and everything but it sounds like a legit question to me! I told her counselor we don't do stork stories. Pretty sure she'll never call me again. :smt071

So, they don't want kids asking questions about sex...and they don't want to pay for the kid's formula or mom's welfare...but don't want anyone to have an abortion either. Can't have it both ways.

It's pretty sad when we have younger generations being dumbed down with the education system that is more about appeasing the illogical opposition. But...in the name of "fairness", we have to validate even the most absurd claims.

But did your child get in trouble for asking that?

No, she didn't get in trouble...they just didn't answer her question. Go to the clinic when you're 13 and pregnant though and they'll answer any questions you have.
