http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/l...-259363861.html?_osource=SocialFlowFB_DCBrand Why the fuck would you solve a math problem by using numbers that you don't have?? Not to mention creating unnecessary work in the process. Do we ever solve problems irl by using something that we do not have?? In the end they actually used 20 to find 20. Who in their right minds use the answer to find the answer?? A sane person simply stops at the answer.
Totally confused! Why would they change the "old" problem solving? I also heard they no longer teach cursive. crazy!
Bunch of us school mums had to take lessons on how to do math again because our kids are being taught totally different to us. It's bonkers . Don't get me started on how they are being taught to read and spell
I've been reading into the common core standards and the math section....no matter how many times I look into this, I still confuse myself.
I'm still processing this information like a Betamax or an outdated computer with some nasty malware embedded.
who ever wrote that article needs to be fired. look at the operation signs...they are all addition signs in the 2nd example. also why would a teach not perform the regrouping procedures/borrowing procedure (showing the work. every teacher shows work). last, the 2nd "example or approach" that is far from the 2nd technique in teaching subtraction. there are 2 approaches in teaching subtraction...you can really say 3. in any case that 2nd approach doesnt resemble shit that is taught in education to teachers. also common core standards are about standards not teaching techniques. this article is teaching false info.
I'm surprised WWBM community is not aware of Common Core, it's been around four years. It's been a hot topic with cable news talkingheads lately. Thank Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for their 5 billion dollar contribution to help public education. Some States are backing out of this free money and other States are slowly doing the the same. its fake. read what i tried to say up top. no teacher did that. who ever gave that to the newspaper is lying. im not saying common core is perfect but you dont have to lie to make your point
A friend of mine has experience teaching math and his son's grades in math has dropped because of this. Pretty much the same thing the woman said in the video Raudi posted, so no, this story should not be discarded until further investigation is done.
i didnt say people anger against CCS are invalid. i also said its not perfect. look at the paper itself....it says it all. again, there are about 2 textbook approaches in teaching subtraction. whoever call themselves giving examples violated the process so bad its no way to believe the story. also look at the 2nd example they have addition signs for a subtraction problem. come on..... no one is that dumb in falling for that shit.
We read your post. Dude.... The point of this thread is to have a discussion, investigation, and get to the bottom of what is really going on. If there is a valid reason for concern then everyone should know about it, that's the point of the thread. Either you have a reason we shouldn't be concerned or you don't. If they are teaching the kids worthless bullshit there is no reason to bark at people with moot points.
no one is barking.i pointed out bs the newspaper should have caught..u r taking it personal. if you want to discuss the flaws of CCS then cool...do it on the merits of the facts. who ever put out that "subtraction problem" is a str8 liar. i just happen to catch it. im not overly verse in CCS but what conservatives will not tell u CCS was bipartison formulated. now they are against it.
