I have been increasingly aware of Americas growing subtle, arrogant and plainly unapologetic racism Or what I like to call hipster racism. When did racist comments become acceptable if they are in joke form? i.e. Daniel Tosh (Tosh.0), whether you think he is funny or not, the dude is racist. When did the person who points out racism, become the troll? Just try objecting to a thinly veiled racist statement on a mainstream forum/comment page, and see how many people make you look like the bad guy. Why does a persons race only come up when the person is Black? For example: Those kids are acting silly Vs Those BLACK kids are acting silly. I dunno, maybe I'm too thin skinned about this stuff.
Comics try to push boundaries and for some reason this new generation of White comedians think there's comedic gold to be found in flipping the script by flirting around the edges of racial stereotypes. Personally I don't think Tosh.O is a racist, based on how he interacts with his Black Web Redemption guests. He's sarcastic, but IMO never deliberately mocking or insulting his guests. the biggest difference for me happened when i moved from the south to the north...growing up in the south you, most often, know where someone stands; meaning, if they're racist, it's usually in your face outright nastiness. Whereas in the north, it has been my experience that, folks talk out of both sides of their mouth or it's more often, not what they say but the way they say it that's racist. I'm reminded of my father and all that he went through in his life. He is no longer with me, but what he endured was open and blatent racism. I once asked him how he kept his emotions in check. He said it was not so hurtful to him what white folks thought of him, it was what they would force on you to think of yourself. If you are strong in spirit and happy, have a loving family, a supportive wife you can conquer anything that whites or blacks throw at you. The key in his life was to know who you are and not let others force you to be something you are not.

Tosh.O has a LOT of bm friends and I think he falls into that category of wm w bm friends that thinks he gets a pass on racists jokes because of that. Personally I think he is trite and childish. 'Race' does not come up only if the person is black - in comedy-.. seriously, How many black comedians joke about white people. There is probably equal amount of black comedians joking about white people. Or how many comedians joke about Asians, Mexicans, Indians, Arabic... Its all over the place. Usually, not all the time, but usually comedians that uses race tend to do it to all 'races'.
I think the statement was leaning more towards mentioning their ethnicity if they aren't white. Let me explain. In general, if a non-white person is describing someone, they will mention their ethnicity if the person is not THEIR ethnicity. ex. black guy: so this white guy tells me... ex. white guy: so this black guy tells me. etc. As long as the person is their ethnicity, people will not feel the need to mention their ethnicity. You never hear.. ex. black guy: so this black man tells me.. ex. white guy: so I see this sexy white girl walking by... my .02 cents.
I know. Now, get back to studying p53 protein. Why do people feel the need to mention ethnicity if the ethnicity is not their own? What is the significance in that?

I know a thing or two. No, we don't. It kind of irks me when people do it. I wanna say something, but I understand many people do it unconsciously.
You are a man of many talents;-) I agree, it irks me, because it adds absolutely nothing, has no relevance to whatever they are relaying in general.
The only time we specify it is if the person we are relaying the message to needs the information in order to (find/speak specifically to) that person or you are describing someone you are interested in having some sort of relationship with.
