Movies with BM/WW Couples

What mobile apps do y'all use to keep up with all the films mentioned in this thread? It finally hit me the last couple months that I wouldn't need to browse through the older pages of this thread (& other threads in this subforum) as often as I do if I just added the films & TV shows mentioned to my watchlist on a app.

Right now I use the watchlists on the TV Time & Just Watch apps.

Looks like I found a good one here . . . "My Life for Yours" on Tubi. It is a contemporary crime drama and the main characters featured are the interracial couple . . . a brotha and a latina. I will post the trailer tomorrow.

EDIT: Here is the trailer ~

Hey guys & gals . . . I just stumbled upon an early 90's crime thriller featuring one of the most underrated baddest beauties in the business . . . Maria from "Head of the Class" . . . Leslie Rae Bega who also played Valentina de la Paz on HBO in "The Sopranos" for several seasons and she is starring as the lead actress in "Angel in Red" on @Tubi.

This is good late night find a d rather unexpected too as I knew I knew her from somewhere but . . . I couldn't remember where lol. Damn she fine in 1991 as I loved "Head of the Class" on ABC in the late 80's and looks the same. She kisses a BIG Black pimp named "Stash" who she calls for help after her pimp Sharkey" played by a strikingly young Jeffery Dean Morgan beats the brakes off her friend. That's all the spoilers I will post. Damn this White woman is fiiiiiiiinnnnneeee!!! She has my FULL ATTENTION ;). I haven't finished the movie yet but I like the set up so far. She is caring for her younger brother who was so abused by their father that he is developmental disabled. I really like "Angel in Red" so far . . .

This is going to sound crazy but I just noticed that some of these movies on @Tubi are retread or copycats of other movies that came out years prior.

I just watched "Streetwalkin" featuring a young and sexy prime Academy Award winners Melissa Leo with her beautiful pink areolas and I swear that "Angel in Red" is basically the same movie beat for beat lol. These are the types of seedy nightlife in the city 80's movies I like to drink to late night with crime, sex and nudity. I am watching "Angel in Red" right now just to compare and confirm my suspicion and this one has better interracial content and hotter hoes lol.

EDIT: My God they stealing money here with "Angel in Red" because they have so blatantly copycatted "Streetwalking" but to give credit where credit is do . . .this movie has a substantial upgrade in the quality of women . . . it is obvious less than eight minutes into the movie!!

I really think the young Melissa Leo the protagonist of "Streetwalking" is beautiful with a nice body but Leslie Bega the protagonist of "Angel in Red" is on another level!!

Ok Wikipedia says "Uncaged" is the actual title of "Angel in Red" and it is a practical a scene for scene remake of " Streetwalking" lol I knew I wasn't crazy ;)

Although I would like to see more black male showrunners they just needed someone with experience and who is trustworthy is enough. Female directors like Melissa Rosenberg(showrunner of Jessica Jones) Gina Prince-Bythewood(who Directed the first episode of Cloak & Dagger) Molly Breeskin (Sorry For Your Loss and Players) all would've been good choices whom have experience with focusing on the black male lead and IR.

What's this "Players" show that Molly Breeskin did?

It hasn't been released yet but it is a netflix rom-com with Gina Rodriguez and Damon Wayans, jr
https://media.morninghoney.com/bran...ayans-jr-filming-players-06-1627577398671.jpg
WTF??!!! Why am I just heading about this film now? I assume nobody previously posted about it in this thread or in the "upcoming IR slate" thread.

Netflix finally put out a trailer for "Players" last month & the film premiered earlier this week:

New York sportswriter Mack (Gina Rodriguez) has spent years devising successful hook-up “plays” with her friends (Damon Wayans Jr., Liza Koshy, Augustus Prew, Joel Courtney)... But when she unexpectedly falls head over heels for one of her targets (Tom Ellis) she must learn what it takes to go from simply scoring to playing for keeps. Because with this group, love is a team sport.

Players is on Netflix February 14th.

Watch on Netflix: https://www.netflix.com/title/81034895

I watched the 1st half of the film last night. Even though Tom Ellis is heavily promoted as Gina Rodriguez's main love interest, through the 1st half of this film & even in a little bit in this trailer, Damon Wayans Jr. is being lowkey teased as the endgame love interest IMO.

For (non-spoiler) example: Gina Rodriguez has more 1-on-1 significant scene time with Damon Wayans in the 1st half of the film than she actually does with Tom Ellis. There's also another subplot involving Damon Wayans Jr. that heightens my suspicion. I'll confirm if my suspicion is right after I watch the 2nd half of the film later tonight.

EDIT:

I just finished the film & my suspicions were correct. Also I just noticed on YouTube that Gina Rodriguez did all the promotional media tour interviews with Damon Wayans Jr. instead of Tom Ellis. So that should been an obvious sign.

UK pop star Mae Muller makes her acting debut in Amazon Prime movie Gassed Up. Muller plays the love interest of the lead character Ash.
Ash (Odubola), is part of a moped street-gang in London, using his earnings from petty thefts to support his family but struggles with the moral complexities of his actions when a jewellery heist alerts an Albanian crime family to his crew

BORDERLANDS Movie casts

Cate Blanchet as Lilith
EsrgppWVkAAWUES

and Kevin Hart as... Roland?
EsrgpppUYAE4_qc

Weird pairing. I always had either Mehcad Brooks or Ricky Whittle in mind as Roland in a 'Borderlands' movie. And maybe Scarlett Johanssen as Lilith but what do I know. lol.

https://www.ign.com/articles/borderlands-movie-kevin-hart-officially-joins-the-cast?sf136898883=1

I'm barely familiar with the game, are their characters in a relationship?

Yes...

Really Kevin Hart is it a comedy lol

They were for the most part then broke up in Borderlands 2 in their fight against Hyperion. So we're not clear what part of the story they will sart with in the movie version. The plot has yet to be revealed. But either way they were a couple.

This should piss more of us off. Hollywood would racebend a white female character in a heartbeat to cast a black actress as the love interest of a white male character (for diversity's sake....whatever), but the same industry will RUN AWAY from actually following through with an IR that's canon from an established intellectual property if that combo happens to be a black male character and a white female character. That is what is at stake here and that is what this casting is all about IMO. It is 2021 and this remains a problem.

Also the laziness of casting that midget clown Hart in the part of a this alpha soldier type tells you exactly what Hollywood thinks of black men and/or the box they want to keep us in. Make us the funny, small dude who doesn't get to be a real badass or be real desirable to female viewers. Guys like Trevante Rhodes have careers that remained stalled because of opportunities like this wasted on Hart.

Indeed though this seems Borderlands in Name Only and Hollywood loves turning good Video Game Material into bad action comedies. So its hard to get too pissed about this cause well its par for course in terms of Hollywood Video Game Adaptations. Which means I wasn't really expecting this movie not be shit.

Seems like they're using Hart more for selling tickets than fitting the proper description of the character from another medium. Not a new choice to do, but still would be good to see a brotha get with Cate.

So the go -to black male for box office is a midget? No thanks. Hollywood would never lack white male choices to such an extent they would have to resort to a little dude to represent white masculinity in such a story. Look at Wolverine in the comic books. Very short, hairy, knew ugly. But when it came to making a movie version of the character Hollywood cast a guy who could have been a Chippendale dancer. Hollywood almost always try to idealize white men when given a chance. They tend to do the opposite when it comes to black males.

I hope so too. The director (which is Eli Roth of all people. lol.) did imply that it will be a different role for Kevin Hart

https://movieweb.com/borderlands-movie-cast-roland-kevin-hart-official/

Still miscast and with Eli Roth as the director of an ACTION movie doesn't make sense, but we will see. I'm not going to judged early I have learned my lesson on that TOO many times. lol.

But as far as them being a couple goes it depends on which part of the story that they are doing with Borderlands. But even still we could get a lack of a romantic relationship between them because these two are fairly new to bm/ww IR onscreen romances. For all we know Cate can BE an Ali Larter type, Kevin could be one of those now rare black actors afraid of what the "sistas might think" or even the director who is not known for romances at all could want to dial it back a lot.

It's not looking promising right now but I will reserve my judgement when we see at least the stills or trailer.

The 1st trailer for "Borderlands" dropped yesterday:

Borderlands – Coming Soon! Starring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Edgar Ramírez, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous bounty hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home, Pandora, the most chaotic planet in the galaxy. Her mission is to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Ramírez), the universe’s most powerful S.O.B. Lilith forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits – Roland (Hart), a seasoned mercenary on a mission; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound protector; Tannis (Curtis), the oddball scientist who’s seen it all; and Claptrap (Black), a wiseass robot. Together, these unlikely heroes must battle an alien species and dangerous bandits to uncover one of Pandora’s most explosive secrets. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other. Based on one of the best-selling videogame franchises of all time, welcome to BORDERLANDS.

I just watched Melonie Mac's review of the trailer. While y'all were complaining about the casting of Kevin Hart, looks like Cate Blanchett is also a miscast. Her character, Lilith, is supposed to be younger & a baddie. SMH.

And judging by the trailer it looks like they ditched the plot of them being a couple unless it's either hidden or like I mentioned before they will be going with them being a former couple.

I stumbled onto this 2022 indie film "One More Dream" while browsing IMDB:

One More Dream (2022)

High School is as much a time of fear and self-doubt as it is for dreams. In One More Dream, we get a glimpse into the life of African American teen, Jeremy, as he tries to understand how the heartbreaks of adolescence impacts the lives of his friends.

Link to see which streaming services you can watch it on: https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/one-more-dream-2022

Saw the screening of Table 19 Greg Robinson plays a 'cold fish' brother to his wife played by Lisa Kudrow.

Trailer & a featurette for the 2017 comedy film "Table 19":

Ex-maid of honor Eloise (Anna Kendrick) - having been relieved of her duties after being unceremoniously dumped by the best man via text - decides to hold her head up high and attend her oldest friend's wedding anyway. She finds herself seated at the 'random' TABLE 19 in the back of the ballroom with a disparate group of strangers, most of whom should have known to just send regrets (but not before sending something nice off the registry). As everyone's secrets are revealed, Eloise learns a thing or two from the denizens of TABLE 19 . Friendships - and even a little romance - can happen under the most unlikely circumstances.

Awkward teens.

The Black male character played by Che Tafari is presented as the supporting actor to the main lead white female character played by Brooklynn Prince. But towards the end they didn't even bother to mention him in the credits. Just her and the actors playing her family who were seen less than Che in the trailer. He is not even on some of the posters of this film.

That's a red flag to me.

Good catch and I subliminally made the same observations. I don't get much out of my Paramount+ subscription so I will be watching it for what it's worth. I have heard that Warner Brothers - Discovery is no longer interested in buying Paramount+ which is whatever since they could just buy out Taylor Sheridan for his catalog of shows instead. They already sold MAX their horror movies.

Brian Tyree Henry and Jennifer Lawrence in Lila Neugebauer’s Causeway.

Coming November 2022.

They renamed the movie... again.

Hate to break it to you guys but from what I am hearing from its world premiere from the festival's there is no romance between them, just friendship..The film hasn't been completely spoiled but there is a huge hint in one review that Jennifer's character is gay and if that is the case I am certain the film will find a black woman for her love interest.

Anyhow this same review ever points out how the movie appears to be steering itself to a romance between Jennifer and Bryan but then sort of "course corrects" itself or something like that.

If I am wrong about this I apologize ahead of time.

But, hey, take comfort in that apparently the writers of The Woman King manage to manufacture a made up romance between one of the black female soldiers and a white dude fighting for the enemy. You know how Hollywood likes its IR in only one form.

Yeah they sold this as a dramatic romance until people actually saw it and from the reviews I read it sounds like a friendship with a gay woman.

My girl Jennifer Lawrence ???
View attachment 22557View attachment 22558

But idk if Brian could pull this off if this is a romantic thing.

It's not unfortunately they went with the buddy IR for this one.

Is there a romantic ww/bm relationship here???
I heard Jennifer Lawrence's character in this flick is a lesbian, and they have more of a friendship than anything. Still positive, just not what some of us hoped lol.

Did I hear wrong?

Jennifer's character says she's a lesbian. Yet, they kiss and embrace in the pool.

Oh, Jennifer can't keep her clothers on the whole movie, and she is literal definition of leading on. The ending is open ended, you decide for yourself did they get together. But make no mistake, Jennifer walk around half nekkid all the time, I'd kill for more friends like her that looked like her.

Lol thanks my dude. I think I'll check it out

I read somewhere that it was a
sympathy kiss and she immediately regretted it.

I don't go looking for the great love affair. Y'all go looking for the great love affair. So if you're looking for the great love affair. It ain't this movie.

it wasn't a love affair at all. She is a lesbian.

I just watched "Causeway". While I agree the movie is mostly a platonic IR 'ship, I do feel the film has an open-ended ending that could lead their 'ship in any direction.

I have to see Hurricane Smith, also. I saw a scene of it on television. It was the scene when Smith arrives in Sydney and all the Aussie women he passes looks at him and he notices, them and smiles. I think that's what happened....

Rented "Hurricane Smith" on Amazon. Looks good so far but time will tell if it has enough adult elements. Based on what they have provided so far it should as Billy Ray Smith has broken into a brothel on the Gold Coast of Australia while trying to track down his missing sister. He is staying at a hotel called "The Apollo" ;)

Zoe Chao is half Irish/English. Also, I just watched this movie and I thought it was great. Whimsical rom-com with some touching moments and frank dialogue about sex and romance. They had tremendous chemistry as well. I recommend it.

Here's the actual trailer for "If You Were the Last":

I finished "If You Were the Last" last night. This film has an IR love triangle with Natalie Morales playing Anthony Mackie's wife.

Allison Brie and Jay Ellis. Directed by Allison Brie's Husband Dave Franco. Not the first time one of the Franco brothers have directed a film with bm/ww. James Franco directed The Pretenders.

It's hollywood. lol. But this does look good. Just hope they don't make light of infidelity if this is where this story is going. The concept is pretty strong. Let's hope they deliver.

Watched "Somebody I Used to Know" a week or 2 ago. SMH, the promotional artwork was so misleading.
