My wife's friend (female) got into a debate with a black female in class the other day about the ills of the black community in the high out of wedlock births, crime, the disappearing family unit and the underachievement gap between blacks and whites and she was slammed in an argument in that she was labled a racist. I thought what Attorney General Eric Holder wanted was for blacks and whites to come out and discuss these issues. Why is it always a one way street for blacks to criticize and fault whites, but not the other way around? My wife also gets this all the time in conversations with blacks. When they see me and find out that I'm her husband, you should see the reaction. We all should be able to discuss the negative and positive sides of race relations without repercussions because we might say something the other do not want to hear. Denial on both sides has so isolated the critical thinking process that discussing race will always be a taboo subject especially when it deals with the history of interracial sex, dating and marriage. What you think?
I wonder the same thing. As someone who's tried and been called racist a few times. Your brave to start this topic. I'm interested to see how it works out. I won't be commenting further though, I've learned my lesson.
Britty24, never be afraid to speak your mind. I catch hell all the time. You know something, at least I feel good about myself and I stand by my beliefs. Britty24, never be intimidated.
Oh I'm not afraid or intimidated. I've just realized that I shouldn't argue with fools, because people from a distance can't tell who is who.
One way street my ass. Are there false accusations of racism from minorities, and is there a great deal oversensitivity regarding the issues that plague many in the black community? Certainly. But there has also been an ideological and rhetorical push on the right to demonize and marginalize any discussion of legitimate issues regarding institutional racism that is started by a minority for the last generation. You're conveniently ignoring the fact Holder himself was viciously attacked by the right for attacking "white people" and labeled a "racist" himself when he was clearly addressing all Americans. But I guess as far as all the Limbaughs, Hannitys, Buchanans and Coulters out there are concerned, the only real "Americans" are white. I agree that people should be open to what others have to say and engage in unpleasant conversations and debates in order to move forward on the issue of race; however, to sit here and insinuate that black people are only allowed to get our point across due to hideous specter of "political correctness" and are never misrepresented or told to shut up while discussing issues of race is completely and utterly disingenuous to say the least.
Racial discussion has been hijacked by political correctness elites on the part of those who have made a living on the poor and ignorant. It is a fact whether you want to believe it or not. The race pimps have dominated the discussion. Whites who have their share of guilt have long let the wrongs of the past straitjacket themselves based on those historical crimes that is still a legacy to be thrown about for black mail to game the system. The victim mentality and brainwashing has to stop on both sides by the black and white racists who want to keep the races separate so that they can continue to profit as race pimps to their narrow self interest.
Sec Holder has hit on the head on something, most Whites don't have discussion on race. In their groups of friends it is mostly ones that look like themselves. Their lack of interaction with Blacks clouds their view hence the coward remark. The Right-Wingers are mostly in denial since they think racism has ended. Their treatment of Steele on his criticism of Limbaugh is proof they are real and genuine cowards when it comes to race. The myopia is very deep between them.
Like James Baldwin, and Tim Wise(a white man) have said Whites are detached from reality Holder said what he had to say,and it was nothing but the truth Rev wright said what he had to say,and it also was the truth Apparently whites dont like to hear the truth when talking about race.
What makes me sick is this prejudices that still excist in this modern world; Racist-It must be white people Terrorists-It must be Arabs Crime & Corruption-It must be blacks Black people can also be racists, Any other culture can also be terrorists and not just Arabs, White people, Asians, and any other race can also be corrupt and criminals.
