Alvin Greene Details Emerge, But Much Remains Murky About South Carolina Senate Candidate

"MANNING, S.C. — Alvin Greene earned the nickname "turtle" in high school – a quiet, withdrawn boy who was smart when he applied himself but rarely took a chance and tried to put himself in comfortable situations.

Nearly four weeks ago, the 32-year-old unemployed military veteran turned South Carolina's political scene upside down when he won the Democratic nomination for a U.S. Senate seat. And unlike that high school student, he's taking a big chance: running against powerhouse Republican Sen. Jim DeMint.

He is remembered as painfully shy by those who knew him in high school, where Greene was the only black person on the tennis team. His mother died of cancer when he was a boy; a brother died of cystic fibrosis. The few people who know him say the man with a political science degree from the University of South Carolina is smarter than his national image suggests."

This gentleman hasn't even campaign yet, for all we know he is still in his home.

We are still trying to figure it out. South Carolina is open polls so the republicans just need to go in and vote in the democrat's primary election. The thing is they would have been found out if they got so many people to vote for them. That many people voting can't keep a secret. This guy is not the most articulate person in the world. It may be that he can't explain himself well or that the republicans did cheat. The election is going to go on if nothing is fishy. I really hope he goes on and wins the general election.

It's South Carolina, of course the Republicans crossed over into the Democratic primary and put this dufus on the ticket!!:smt110

The percentage of votes he received in traditionally Republican districts was strangely 'high' , especially for a Democratic primary, considering he didn't campaign and had no name recognition.

Now why would a voter in SC who typically votes the GOP ticket in statewide elections, vote in a Democratic Senate primary for a 'ghost' candidate??

Unknowns don't win 69% of the vote ever, I don't care if his name appeared at the top of the ballot or not.

Is anyone else SHOCKED he has a Poli Sci degree from USC?? When I first saw him on MSNBC, I thought the man was borderline mentally handicapped.

The real question that has yet to be answered satisfactorily is, where did Alvin Greene come up with the $10,000 filing fee to even run for the U.S. Senate??

Alvin Greene representing the south carolina democratic party for US senator, looks like he is heading to general election.

I beleive that guy has some mental issue. He is prolly a slow guy to begin with, then prolly saw one too many things in Korea during his military stint and became a frozen PTSD. He needs to go to walter Reed Psych ward than going to general election.

He said he served the Airforce in intelligence unit. Good lord, what the hell did he do there? mop the floor? I mean come on, if we got a guy like him in Airforce intelligence unit, may God save this land of opportunity.

The fool had been cleared. Now,someone must investigate this crime before the general elections.

Yeah, cleared according to SC law enforcement. Common sense says that no retired enlisted military serviceman who claims to make barely $1000/month is going to spend $10,000 allegedly of his own savings to run for U.S. Senate in South Carolina, then spend barely a dime campaigning, and then win by over
    60% of the primary vote.

This whole thing is a setup.

The GOP thinks if they put a 'Black face' up against Democrats, they've immunized themselves from political attack.

Anyone who thinks Alvin Greene legitimately paid his camaign fee and fairly won the Democratic primary in SC is kidding themselves.

Can you imagine this cotton-head in a televised debate??:smt085

The Dems in South Carolina got played by Rovian dirty tricks, plain and simple.

exactly. I was thinking the same thing. Lets pretend this ....that he is not a plant because we dont know.

you can tell he is not the most articulate dude ( that doesnt mean he is dumb) he just come across as slow but with that being said he could make sound decisions. I just want a person to be able to make those sound decisions and not be a crook. That is all the american people want. It is not that hard to understand.

I can take a person making a bad decision if they had well intended reasons but I hate a back stabbing , self centered crook
