I hope that president elect Obama will consider as one of his agendas to turn this country into an economic superpower again is to place science and technology at the forefront. If you study history it was science and technology that created the jobs and industries of the past. I would suggest to him some entity in governement like DARPA that will foster innovation and focus on key industries of the future, much like the way Japan and China are doing for their countries. This should not be heavy handed in the develop of new sciences and technologies, but get out of the way and let businesses and new business owners advance the economics of these new areas of job creation, started by government. Also help foster new industries outside of government. One I would propose to the President if I had the means is the creation of a new high speed national network akin to the interstate system that was for transportation, this one would be for the movement of data to support all industries, schools, businesses etc... The facilities that would run this massive undertaking would be supercomputer utilities scattered throughout the country. These facilities would employ thousands of software programmers and engineers. The national data network would employ millions in its construction and maintenance. Right now China is investing billions in a national infrastructure project to do the same thing. Mr. president, you need an infrastructure program beyond rebuilding roads and bridges. You need to consider a national virtual digital network that will help the nation be competitive in information technology. The supercomputer is the engine of this new technology much like the steam engine and the four cycle combustion engine was to the industrial revolution that made America the superpower it once was Mr. President. Please someone here who has his ear get this message to him.
Thank You Mr. President In your speech this morning on your economic recovery I just want to say thank you. An information superhighway that you envision will be a revolution that will propell this nation into the 21st century. This will indeed create millions of new jobs from automated factories, to computer-controlled machines within our economy and will revolutionize education at all levels in our schools and colleges and universities. Mr. President my wife and I are preparing to do all we can to help you in our own way in the creation of our own small business to be ready for the Information Technology revolution that is coming. I just hope that he makes education a top priority up there with fixing the ecomony. I want a president who can bring smart back and I want a future generation of smart people. The more intelligent and informed we are as a country, the more united we will become.:smt023
You bet. We all talk about the economy and national security, which are indeed crunching issues, but one that gets lost in the debate is the (mis)education system. With the rise of countries like Singapore, South Korea, India and even many West African countries, the spectrum of opportunities are widening and if we are remain on top, we have got to improve our education system.

Having the knowledge provided whether through the internet or thru the love of books will give that person the ultimate advantage to be able to succeed in whatever he or she want to do or be. Education is definately the key to ones self-realization in this life. If only my father had the opportunities in his day that young people of color have today.
