Are White Republicans Scared of Blacks???

Mostly no. Some are. I was in College Republicans in my university last year and there were mostly white and asian and one black excluding me. We had a small discussion on race and why most white republicans don’t talk about race is because they are afraid of accidently offending blacks when they don’t mean anything negative. They wish their party was more diverse and had more “culture” to it. They say when they to recruit people who happen to be black to the club, most blacks are nervous to join because of being feared of being called an “uncle tom”. May I remind you that it was a Republican president to who freed the slaves and got killed for doing so! His name was Lincoln.

Do anyone know white republicans and do you think they are racist or not? Just curious to know? Had a discussion about this with my dorm mate at dinner last night.

I don't even know where to begin. First of all, Lincoln never "freed" the slaves and was never a fervent supporter of the equal assimilation of blacks into American society as such. It is indeed true that he expressed support for blacks having equal rights but that was only because he initially wanted to shore up support in his party whilst seeking the nomination. You may recall that the Radical Republicans never supported him and he adopted a pro-abilition theme to secure the nomination.

In his legendary debates against Stephen Douglas - an avowed pro-slavery blowhard - he explicitly rejected the idea of blacks being as equal as whites and the idea of blacks marrying white repulsed him. He infact, told a black audience that. So let's stop saying that.

Second of all, you say white Republicans are not racists? Dude, where have you been for the last 44 years? The Republican Party has pandered to the worst instincts of (white) Americans and have been unapologetic about it. Just look at this past election alone, for example. Did you not witness some of the most vile insults, innuendos and slurs hurled at Obama simply because of his skin color? Are you kidding me? And there are not racists for that? C'mon.

Now i don't know the white Republicans you talk to and obviously cannot speak about all white Republicans, but the ones i have seen or know about are some of the most hateful, bigoted individuals i've ever known. Republicans have no interest whatsoever in diversifying the ranks of their party, despite the calls to do so from even the most conservative echelons of their party, such as Newt Gingrich. Of course, thats rather unfortunate for them and is good news for the Democrats in the long run, because America is getting increasingly multicultural, as evidence by the electorate in the last election. In 2004, white voters made up 79% of all voters. In 2008, they made up 73% of voters. Now that might not seem like a huge number but if you consider the fact that black participation went up and Obama got out the Hispanic vote like Bush did, that's about 4 million more votes. And the diversification of the nation is going to increase of course, not decrease.

Of course, Republicans know this but continue to play the politics of division and sow the seeds of hatred and antipathy. Now this is not to say that Republicans have a monopoly on hatred - quite the opposite. As we witnessed during the Democratic primaries, we can finally bury the myth that only the Republicans have racists in their party. The Democrats do as well, a lot more than they may be willing to admit. If Hillary thinks that all those people in West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio and Pennsylvania voted for her, then she's crazier than i thought. And keep in mind that many of her voters bought into the insane myths about Obama and all that so it's a double edged sword.

But nonetheless, i seriously doubt Obama would have won the nomination, let alone the presidency, if he were a Republican. At least the vast majority of Democrats (of all colors) gave him an audience. Republican voters never give the few black candidates they run a chance. They either stay home or cross over. And they can't claim the candidates aren't conservatives. Ken Blackwell, Lynn Swann and Alan Keyes make Trent Lott seem like Adlai Stevenson. Yet all these guys went down in flames. So please......

Of course there are plenty of moderates in the GOP who aren't bigoted or pander to racists but they are silenced by the far right wing of their party. And until the GOP changes that attitude, their events, rallies, conventions and supporters at large will continue to resemble a Wall Street general meeting rather than a J.C. Penney TV ad.

 

Hello. Have you ever seen the History Channel and A&E Channel Biography documentaries on Lincoln? In both documentaries they say Lincoln supported Blacks and wanted to free them. Where do you get your sources from? Besides the GOP wants to have Bobby Jindal for president in 2012. A Black Indian. That's change we can believe in. So how can you say they don't want colored people for president???

What the fuck is a "black Indian?" I guessing that you have not spent any significant amount of time in the company of South Asians. Seriously dude, the vast majority of them (no matter how dark their skin may be) would flip out if they read that insinuation about them being in the same category racially as indigenous sub-Saharan Africans.

Regarding Jindal. 1. There are some in this country who will display a level of tolerance for any other group of people save for blacks. If you're really a black man and you don't know this, then you're painfully naive and in for a rude awakening at some point in your life. The Southern Strategy of the Republican party specifically targeted blacks. Most of the non-black Republicans who are also members of racial/ethnic minorities didn't give a damn until the redneck base turned on them as well (e.g. Arab and Muslim Americans post 9/11, and Latinos post 2004) 2. I'll believe Jindal can realistically get the nomination for either President or Vice President from the GOP when I see it happen at their convention. He might have traction with younger, college educated Republicans, but the freaks in the base who clamored for Palin will NEVER accept him.

 

Black Indians are the ones who are mixed with African and Indian descent. When I travel to India, they are found in the southern region. There are alot Indians like them at my university and i'm friends with most of them. They cook great food by the way! Spicy Food!

Jindal will be accepted like Obama is accepted. dont worry, he will.

WOW! Do you really believe this? If so, can you site historical fact that shows the Party is racist, if so please educate me. I am truly interested, I do not want to be part of a Party that is racist. I will change my affiliation to Independent if you can convince me.

I see a lot here about individual people who happen to be Republican, not things that pertain to the stance of the Party itself. Please enlighten me!

As to the original question, NO, white Republicans are not afraid of Blacks. I have many, many friends who are white Republicans, and that in and of itself doesn't mean they are afraid of blacks. Some of them may be afraid of blacks, many white people have many fears. Being a Republican has nothing to do with it.

Yes White Republicans are always ignorant when it comes to Blacks. They are the reason Whites in the South defected from the Democratic party. Obama would had carried South Carolina and Georgia had some Whites voted Democratic.

 

I doubt the GOP would accept Jindal as president. The Palin people are comming strong and they would accept the woman because of her looks. She has the Dan Quayle touch.

I not on a mission but want to see Blacks prosper. Most Black have potential to do great things like MLK. And the Republican has alot to offer you. I don't work for the Republican party. I used to be a Democrat before joining the GOP. I'm for lower taxes.

There is no record of MLK voting Republican after his inprisonment in 1960. Daddy King supported the GOP and would had voted for Nixon had the candidate used his influence to let his son out of jail.
