Oral Roberts and Liberty University are two fundamentally, disturbing institutions that have a lot of incorrect ideas in which people funnel their lives in. You shouldn't be surprised.

 

You're right about those institutions, LBW. I had heard that Bachmann had a law degree, but I guess I thought it was from a real law school. We had these people playing with and perverting the law for eight years under GWB. I think it would be awful to give them another shot!

 

She's not a real certified individual, plus she didn't bother taking the BAR exam again after she failed it. If I'm correct, she took something different which is only plausible to practice in one state...Minnesota.

 

Actually any bar exam you take only lets you practice in the state in which you take it. If you want to practice in another state, you have to either take their exam or sometimes they will waive you in if you have a certain number of years practicing.

I was surprised to learn that being admitted to the federal bar is super easy by comparison.

I read on Wikipedia that she has her LLM from William & Mary. That's surprising!

 

And they probably forgot to include that "god" had a helping hand in her "success."

 

You would think having been born in Waterloo, Iowa herself she would know a little about someone as notorious as John Wayne Gacy, while John Wayne the actor was born in Winterset, Iowa.

This has nothing to due with her politics, just as all of her other gaffes don't either. I think many Americans still suffer from Bush-phobia as soon as a politician shows signs of being an airhead we 'break out in hives'. Is that wrong?
Even many Republicans had issues and bad memories of many of Bush's decision hell I don't think that to many of his decisions still don't impact us now. Financial, banking and housing industry deregulation which led to our economic meltdown, the wars, lack of action on healthcare, lack of effective leadership education etc.

What amazes me is her ability to deny things. Here part of a word for word interview w/ George Stephanopoulos:

"In your announcement you said 'my voice is part of a movement to take back our country.' From whom?

Bachmann: Well, from the people all across the nation. '

Did she once again not understand an articulate interviewers question? She seems to not answer questions, she has talking points and that is all she says except when she is cornered and her response is to expand the lie. Scary.

 

I would hope that you are right about that, Botoan. My sense is that there are a number of people who vote on someone based on some sort of feeling of personal affinity with that person. I can't help but think, somewhat cynically, that this is what prompted her to reveal the information about having suffered a miscarriage in an effort to seek some political advantage from a personal loss.

Hey, at least she is anti-slavery. You don't see many politicians really making that a cornerstone of their campaigns so many years after slavery was legally abolished in this country. ;-)

Bachmann is the same whack-job who said the Founding Fathers worked 'tirelessly' to end slavery!!!

My political inclination is liberal/progressive, but why can't the GOP promote candidates whom the rest of us can at least look at and say, well thank God the Republican nominee has more than two brain cells to rub together.

Why do the Bachmanns and the Palins always seem to rise to the top of their party??

Not everyone is liberal, there are ppl of all kinds of views in here, personally I am a socially liberal but somewhat fisically conservative christian. I would hate to see a nut job like Bachamman who champion herself with crazy ideas be a leader of this country, she is no different than the wacko loonatics who run Jesus camps and subject many kids to emotionally abuse.

 

To me gaffe is not a big deal, what I worry about is the true deep down core ideaology of that individual.

Obama has lots of gaffes too, he is not as smart as ppl think he is.

He said 57 states
"My muslim faith"
"Thank you Sioux City"
He gave a speech to unit of Armed service saying that he awarded his first medal to a live solider of their unit, in fact it was posthumously.
He siad 10, 000 ppl died in tornado in Kansas or something like that when in fact the number doesn't come up close to that at all.
He said the Boston cop acted stupidly without knowing all the details, which forced him to hold a beer summit in the backyard of the white house
"my grand mother is a typical white perso"
etc, etc......

Obama's gaffe makes him sound like a bumbling fool sometimes, he has difficulty speaking off the cuff that's why they keep him on telepromter, so he aint a genius either.

The reality is that everyone makes gaffes from time to time, no matter how intelligent or well-educated they are. I agree that a gaffe from time to time is not a big deal.

I think that there are a couple of relevant questions here. First, is a gaffe really a gaffe? I seriously doubt that President Obama believes that there are 57 states. On the other hand, if you read thetranscript that Botoan posted (or watch the Paul Revere video I posted on the Politics thread) you will see people embracing the gaffe as the truth rather than owning up to the gaffe and going on from there. Does Bachmann believe that the Founding Fathers were opposed to slavery? Does Palin think Paul Revere warned the British? Who knows?

Second, if one sets aside the gaffe(s), is the person someone who is intelligent, thoughtful, and well-educated? I value those traits - among others - in a leader more than I value the ability to be gaffe-free.

That back and forth on the founding fathers/slavery question was like a parody of Sara Palin abortion clip.

Obama's verbal slips can essentially be counted on one hand, (calling his grandmother a typical white woman of her generation and saying the Boston cop acted stupidly weren't gaffes, those are his opinions and IMO fair ones), and he never makes bizarre historical leaps in logic then attempts to defend them.

If you checked Obama directly on his mistakes in front of a mike, he wouldn't DEFEND them.

To me, that speaks of a limited intellect and a small mind when a person defends an obvious mistake.

Bachmann was quick to disown the John Wayne Gacy error, but she just won't let go of the Founding Fathers/slavery bullshit.

That's scary.

I didn't like George H. Bush(sr.), but I at least took some comfort in knowing the man was intellectually sharp and not a slave to party ideology.

The more ignorant and partisan GOP candidates present themselves to be, the more they rise in stature in the leadership of the Republican party.

The Tea Party has taken over the controls of the GOP machine and is promptly driving them off a cliff!!!
