Some people are blunt and spout sheer nonsense when telling us how they feel about Obama, and others are much more...subtle and leave things open to interpretation?

 

That is kind of that what I think is the core of socialism is, I just have a hard time putting it into english language.

 

The same as you and others regurgitating the huffingtonpost and moveon.org. I would rather work hard and get something then to be handed it. There is no dignity in begging. Young blacks have been highjacked by Communists and radicals. Your posting up alot old photos of racists don't there aren't racist Democrats.

 

So I am to assume that you've never had any sort of government assistance for anything in your life ever? No temporary food stamps, no TANF, no welfare, no medical assistance, no federal student loans, no federal grants, nothing, right? You paid cash for college, that you earned yourself? Oh, and while we're at it, your parents never received any sort of government help at all, either, right? Not even for you as a child?

Because, if you've ever had any of that, then you've benefited from "socialist" ideas. Not only that, it means you also accepted a hand out.

God forbid anyone ever needs help with anything.

Oh, and please, never give to charity or churches, because other people might actually benefit from those handouts, and we wouldn't want anyone benefiting from any few paltry dollars they didn't earn.

You might also like to look into working on your reading comprehension, because I never said anything about socialism working, or not working, nor did I try to say "socialism is so awesome omgz.". I was merely pointing out that way too many stupid people can't read well enough to distinguish socialism from communism.

I am willing to bet that I have worked harder and achieved more than you have ever dreamed. Yes. Everyone who is poor is lazy, including the millions of poverty stricken black people, because everyone knows that slavery was a hoax and the subsequent years of Jim Crow had nothing to do with why so many people have such a hard time gaining any capital.

And of course no one ever deserves any sort of handout, including medical care, food, or housing, because it's completely unAmerican to care about the other citizens of your country. GO AMERICA, WE'RE SO AWESOME OMG. Capitalism and greed, YEAH!

You are a beautiful young lady and I have respect for your viewpoint. Blacks shoot themselves in the foot. Everyday in the "Hood" they shoot each over some stupid reason. You can't even keep a business those communities because they are stealing and robbing so much. Or because they wanna be a "gangsta N##ga" Look at Detroit and Kilpatrick. Sneakee, we can certainly agree that "certain segments" of the Black community still buy into the uneducated/thug mentality and make poor choices that compound the challenges they already face in society, however, racism and discrimination are still very real problems. That being said, I don't believe the majority of African Americans are looking to blame anyone, they just want an opportunity to create a better life for themselves and their loved ones, just like anybody else. African Americans have been at the forefront of entrepreneurship and innovation since day one in this country, we can also agree that self reliance, discipline and hard work will continue to be critical to continue making positive steps for ALL people, regardless of color.

As to your last comment above, are you against all forms of public funding social safety nets? If so, an interesting debate can be had as to who performs such services better, government or private organizations.

 

I think they Obama tried to rush this through and that was a really bad method. I am not against all government programs, but we have to think we are still in a reccession and these programs cost money. Alot of people are not working we cannot afford to raise taxes at this time. I think Welfare has done blacks a disservice. Really these political parties are the same they just lie to different sets of people. Between government and private organizations. Government organizations are very wasteful at times. The free market is very important to maintain and I also hope that more young blacks could start their own businesses.

On healthcare I there should more a focus on preventive care. Telling people how to eat healthy brushing their teeth. Telling them not forcing them.

 

Interesting, the latest proposal does contain language that would force those who are uninsured and can afford to pay, to in fact pay for private or a co-op public option health-care. One could argue that such a provision would in fact help keep costs down for everyone, however I am not a fan of the government forcing its citizenry to certain actions when choice is involved.

 

Obama didn't try to rush anything through. That's another RW talking point. Health care reform is decades in the making.

How do you reconcile the fact that the private health insurers actually produce higher profits by denying care? Do you honestly believe that it's out of line for the government to force the insurance companies to end their "recession" policies, through which they drop people who have paid their premiums faithfully for years as soon as they get sick? Do you think that it's wrong for the government to prevent the insurance industry from barring people with preexisting conditions from receiving coverage? Or are you fine with thefact the a person who's had health problems in the past or has a sick dependent may be forced to stay in a job instead of taking a new one or starting their own business because they won't be able to secure medical coverage? Do you realize that much of the funding for these proposals would actually come from the termination of the ridiculous subsidies to the private industry? Or are you fine with the fact that the medical care in this country is totally inadequate for tens of millions of people despite our government spending a larger percentage of its GDP subsidizing health care than other industrialized countries that have socialized health care systems and universal coverage?

I could go on, but I know that it would be a waste of my time. Maybe you should try thinking critically about these issues instead of mindlessly regurgitating a bunch of pablum.

That wasn't a partisan attack. It was more of an exhortation for you to become better informed and to improve your simplistic style of debate.

 

My issue with it is that it's not all just blaming "the white man". I won't deny that I have many times scoffed at lazy people who exploit resources available in order to not work and/or not work hard. I've personally witnessed this of many different races, including black and white.

My problem with it is that those people don't encompass -all- poor people, nor are they making up the vast majority of people with welfare, food stamps, and other assistance given by the government...from what I have seen. I cannot speak for everyone because I don't know everyone, obviously, but I have been poor my entire life and out of the thousands of people I have met over the course of said life most have been poor. This is a small sample of the poverty stricken in this country, but I have had the oppourtunity to see both sides of the argument. I too don't like the idea of lazy assholes taking advantage of my tax dollars...where we seem to differ, however, is that I believe the good people who can benefit outweigh the importance of the idiots.

I can only speak from personal experience, of course. But my personal experiences are why I have such a passion for my beliefs, especially in the area of helping those in poverty. Part of my drive to get out of poverty is caused by my want to help people. I hope to be able to give back, and give more than what I've found available for myself, because I know how hard it is to juggle everything, try to take care of yourself, your family, your school, your job, and your life when you have no choice but to keep going even when you desperately need medical attention but can't afford it, or when your sugar levels are so low you're about to pass out, but you can't afford dinner to get it balanced again, or you have nowhere to live because, despite working overtime, you can't afford rent because you're only making minimum wage and it's 5.15 an hour.

I don't want other people having to descend to the depths I myself have had to, and because of that I'd love to see more help for people in similar situations.

If more options for help were available for poverty stricken people I believe there'd be a sharp decline in drug use and drug dealing. I can't tell you how many bright, wonderful people I've met who ended up selling drugs, or doing drugs, just because they felt there were no other options. Now, I'm not saying that it's not a personal choice...in the end, people who make those choices still have the weight of that decision on their shoulders, but situations are not always as clear cut as they may appear to outsiders. Sometimes those decisions, while bad, may really be the only option...sometimes the last resort after all other options have been exhausted.

It pains me how many great minds end up wasted because they weren't lucky enough to be born at least middle class.

Note: Not sure if my thoughts here are very well organized, I'm halfway listening to a video on date rape in class, but it's badly produced, has horrible sound quality, and is nearly 20 years old now, so it's kinda stupid and outdated aside from the historical aspect of it.
