We had a double killing here last night of a young black man gunning down and killing two young black men and critically injurying two others. It brings the black homicide number up to 89 since the beginning of this year here. Most of those killed are young black men, killed by young black men. I can imagine what the national numbers are in this extermination on the streets. The black community is in crises here. What in the hell is going on? Is it self hate? Is it drugs? Is all hope gone? I have yet hear from the local black political leaders and those in the black church on this epidemic that is tearing black families apart and destroying the communities. All I hear is that whites are holding us back. BULLSHIT. Hell I guess it has become sport now for other races to shoot and kill blacks since blacks do not give a damn about their own anyway. These black politicians only open their mouths when there is a profit and power to be made for themselves. Fucking assholes.

And most young white men are killed by young white men as most young Asian men are killed by Asian men and so forth.

It's the way media reports it.

In philly, black homicides (black on black, black on whomever) usually get more publicity, which further leads us to think negative of our community. Some may think this is unfair, but when you see the knucklehead mentality of some of our brothas, it makes you a believer.

Always quick to fight and argue, and bragging about what kind of gun they have.

    I don't carry a gun.

I'd rather take a few lumps to the face and give some out, than take a life, especially since most shit AINT worth killin' over...

One instance of this stupidity, happened a few weeks back. Two guys were beefing at an event or something, and had a scuffle inside. Later on, one guy followed another guy outside, and pulled out his heat and bust caps in homeboy.

    :(

when you talk gun-law reform, the NRA and related lobby groups (not to mention various black folk themselves) short-circuit the conversation and assert that if "everybody" was strapped then there wouldn't be any more street murders.. oh well.. :smt068

ending the prohibition against drugs would also go a long way into taking profits away from the criminal-minded types who enforce their trade with violence.. but then the law-&-order/drug war absolutists label it as "a defeatist strategy", and moral alarmists (including most clergy) insist that legalizing means that "you just want everybody using!"

when you talk about prison reform, including correctional education programs, societal re-entry job training, earlier parole for non-violent offenders, then the ghost of Willie Horton lives again; neither Repubs nor Dems wants to be seen as soft on crime, so more money goes into building and maintaining prisons compared to, say, higher education..

Whilst I would agree with the original post of this thread that the issue of black males murdering each other is a legitimate cause for concern, it would also be incumbent on me to note that the argument that black community leaders only jump upon a cause when it profits them is not only a bald-faced half-truth, it also borders on intellectual dishonesty. You may not like him, but only a liar (or someone living in Antarctica) would fail to remember that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have been relentless crusaders against illegal guns i (a rather odd term in my view) and the violence associated with it in Chicago and New York respectively. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus, most notably Rep. Bobby Rush, have for years tried to use their positions in Congress to combat gun violence in urban communities. Gov. Doug Wilder, during his tenure as Gov, signed "tough" laws regarding gun ownership in Virginia. Rapper T.I. has recently taken the mic for reasons other than rapping, and has sought to become an anti-gun violence activist, as have many other rappers for that matter.

The reality is that inner city violence is a very complex issue that cannot simply be withered down to a bunch of one-dimensional, media-happy soundbites. It requires a deep glance into the abyss of social unrest and cultural capital (or lack, thereof). I don't have the answers to all of it myself, but let's not knock those trying to fix it with inflammatory and incendiary rhetoric.
