He has every reason to be in love, not her. American culture is too conservative to accept a president's wife as anything other than the poster child for national modesty.

Yep, true. The UK do care to some extent, probably not as much as the US. I remember a few high profile politicians involved in crazy sex scandals. It's the tabloid media, they love a scandal - Tommy Sheridan, David Blunket etc... Carla Bruni is fierce. Sarkozy is a lucky man indeed.
