Can yall imagine having a first lady like Carla Bruni here in the US?

Do you think her beauty and modeling career would ever be acceptable in US politics? It is a thin line female politicos have to walk, being womanly and being taken seriously.

But they do seem to be genuinely in love, dont they?

He has every reason to be in love, not her. :p

American culture is too conservative to accept a president's wife as anything other than the poster child for national modesty.

Only in France where a woman who dated celebs and marries a divorced man be First Lady.

In most European countries ..... except maybe Britain .... peoples personal lives are irrelevant - bar you being a criminal or something.
The Bill Clinton saga would never have happened in the EU.

Yep, true. The UK do care to some extent, probably not as much as the US. I remember a few high profile politicians involved in crazy sex scandals. It's the tabloid media, they love a scandal - Tommy Sheridan, David Blunket etc...

Carla Bruni is fierce. Sarkozy is a lucky man indeed. Here's a story of how they met http://www.thefirstpost.co.uk/people,1968,when-speedy-nicolas-sarkozy-met-huntress-carla-bruni,73860 Funny how she doesn't wear heels anymore.

I doubt you'd get a Carla Bruni as the First Lady, not just now anyways.

If McCain had married Bruni..that mofo would have won the White House....then again, probably not.

Hillary would have been mad, I mean more pissed than she is now....Bill wouldn't.

I remember Bruni was dating Mick Jagger for a lil' bit.

Let's just say the "religious" right would go apeshit if that ever happened in the US.
