WASHINGTON -- Former Vice President Dick Cheney was "embarrassed" when the U.S. credit rating was downgraded in August, and he hopes that the development will compel lawmakers to continue to work to address the deficit. Cheney's comments came in an extended interview with Rush Limbaugh, published in the right-wing radio host's print newsletter "The Limbaugh Letter." "Now, these last few months have been pretty messy," said Cheney. "I think like a lot of people I was embarrassed when they lowered our credit rating from AAA to AA. I literally felt embarrassed for my country." "But I also think that the fact that we've gotten to this point where we are faced with a crisis in terms of the debt problem, that that's going to give those of us who want to address that issue and fix it the leverage that we haven't had up until now, in terms of insisting on the kinds of policies that will be painful, but in the long run are necessary if we're going to restore full faith and credit in the United States government." This chart alone passively tells us that Obama needs to win re-election in 2012, for the good of our country. One of the most important things that Obama must do with regards to the economy is to work on increasing US employment and reducing the deficit through cuts in defense, other unnecessary services, and by increasing taxes, especially on the top 10%. This could be implemented with the $450 billion jobs plan that Obama is proposing. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the plan will be enacted into law due to Republican resistance in the House of Representatives.
Why do people still listen to Dick Cheney?? The man is so full of shit he farts out of his nose. http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/cheney-suddenly-worried-about-defecits Lawrence Kudlow interviewed Dick Cheney on CNBC yesterday and it was all about his views on the economy. Kudlow tried to get Cheney to call Obama a "socialist," but he wouldn't bite on that one. I do have to give Kudlow a little credit here. He didn't just blow right past the part of our history where the Bush/Cheney administration almost destroyed the global economy, and he even put some of the blame on his guest. Anyway, Cheney suddenly is now very worried about deficits since President Obama has been forced to pump massive amounts of money into the economy to try and save it from Cheney's handiwork. You may remember this little gem from Dick when he got into it with Paul O'Neil: O'Neill, fired in a shakeup of Bush's economic team in December 2002, raised objections to a new round of tax cuts and said the president balked at his more aggressive plan to combat corporate crime after a string of accounting scandals because of opposition from "the corporate crowd," a key constituency. O'Neill said he tried to warn Vice President Dick Cheney that growing budget deficits-expected to top $500 billion this fiscal year alone-posed a threat to the economy. Cheney cut him off. "You know, Paul, Reagan proved deficits don't matter," he said, according to excerpts. Cheney continued: "We won the midterms (congressional elections). This is our due." A month later, Cheney told the Treasury secretary he was fired.:smt119
I wonder why myself since he was part of the team that got the country into this mess. The Bitching and Moaning of the GOP over more than a trillion of Obama spending and a mind laspe over the 5 trillion by the Bush years is obious for a re-election for Obama. I wonder how in the world the 'Spend and Stiff' Republicans are going to get this country out of the red? As for Chaney,I want to know why there is no investigation of him getting money from his Haliburton contracts in Iraq?
I think it all boils down to time. Obama will have to win re-election in 2012, serve all 8 years, then a subsequent Democrat will have to win in 2016 and serve two terms with a Democratically controlled House and Senate. Currently the Republicans are winning special election congressional seats in New York and Nevada, but the wins stem from much higher Republican turnout than Democratic turnout. So I don't think there's too much to worry about, that can be reversed in 2012 and 2014.
