No. We also don't like violating the rule of law, nor do we care for the use of draconian and inefficient interrogation techniques on detainees.
Here are a couple more videos of people who pulled the same "publicity stunt." http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1579920046?bctid=20047560001
Here's another disturbing video clip, only this one wasn't staged. I wonder how many incidents like this were prevented by waterboarding? I guess this is what you would call "enhanced execution". According to the FBI agents that worked with detainees before the CIA came in and started torturing them, none. These techniques are designed specifically to elicit false confessions from suspects. Ali Soufon, the FBI agent who initially interrogated Abu Zabaydah, testified before Congress last week that he was able to get all of the useful information out of the men that he interrogated using standard interview techniques. As it stands now, it appears that the only information that was garnered through the use of these techniques were the spurious claims about the connection between Iraq and Al-Qaeda and Saddam's purported stockpiles of WMDs. It doesn't matter how vile our enemies are. We are supposed to a nation of laws that sets the standard for the rest of the world. There's nothing that justifies sinking to the level of the extremists that we are supposed to fighting.
You might be surprised. Not all of us wish harm on those who have harmed us or have the potential to harm us.
It is the CIA that has the responsibility/expertise for intelligence gathering, not the FBI. There are many unsolved investigations that the FBI might be just as concerned about. Regardless of how you feel about waterboarding, you have to wonder why partisan liberals have expressed far more outrage for an interrogation technique that we actually use on our own officers during pilot training and radio talk show hosts willingly submit themselves to as a stunt, than they do over Islamo-terrorists brutally be-heading innocent civilians on video.
Many servicemen have openly questioned the usefulness of being waterboarded in SERE training. I've read accounts of soldiers who had to be treated for psychological problems (and in a few cases discharged from the military all together) due to their experiences with SERE. Christopher Hitchens claimed that he was so rattles by his experience from the video I posted earlier that he had nightmares about it for weeks afterward. And these are only accounts from people who underwent this process in a controlled environment were they could stop at any time. As for the last bit that you wrote, people are upset about the officials at the highest level of government violating the law with impunity. If you honestly believe that people on the left don't care about innocent civilian being murdered, I don't know what to tell you. Like I wrote earlier, you can invoke thr barbarity of the terrorists all that you like, but I'll never believe that their actions justify us abandoning our principles.
The purpose of SERE school and other elite schools is to prepare for severe combat situations. Rigorous screening is required beforehand, and there naturally is a high attrition rate. Every serviceman is not meant to be a pilot or a special operator. Training a first class military to defend the US means that there will unfortunately sometimes be training injuries and complications, sometimes (not in SERE, but other types of training, parachuting for example) there will even be fatalities. Hitchens should be rattled, he is not a soldier, he is a journalist. What would you expect? Nevertheless, he was willing to undergo the experience in an effort to discredit the Bush Administration. I'm sure he would willingly do it again and again. Too bad he won't get the desired results. ...and I reiterate, virtually no outrage was expressed on the part of the liberal community regarding terrorist atrocities against America and Americans compared to their whining and gnashing of teeth over CIA techniques against our wartime enemies and it is shameful.
It is not a good thing to wish harm on others, I agree. However, it is the prudent, (and a Constitutionally mandated responsibilty), to defend the nation from its enemies, foreign or domestic and to train and maintain armies. We are fortunate in this country to have an all-volunteer military, but the flipside of that is we have a lot of citizens that are so insulated from what it takes to defeat our enemies that they are shocked when they are exposed to some of the dirty work.
How effective is complaining against terrorists? How practical? Will our displeasure with them cutting American heads off do anything whatsoever to deter them? Liberals, with good reason, believe that using these techniques A) does not work and B) assists the enemy in their propaganda & recruitment efforts. We want fewer Americans captured, tortured & killed. We don't think gnashing our teeth will help. We do believe that getting rid of unnecessary ineffective interrogation techniques that encourage more people to join the terrorists will help. It is ridiculous to suggest that liberals don't care about terrorism against Americans. It is precisely because we do care that we object so strongly to these techniques.
This is just an asinine comment. Come on.... There have been great conservative leaders in this country as well.
