G.W bush VS B.Obama

I wish people had this much passion about the U.S. Senators and Representatives that get elected into our Congress. THAT'S the heart of this country's laws!

I love talking politics, but no one talks passionately about the Senators that get elected or who are up for re-election. We, as voters, should be caring even MORE about them, instead of the "figurehead" that runs around as the most powerful man in the world.

 

That's so true Bookworm- because they are really the one's who run the country!

 

I have a question, and maybe this should be a different topic, but anyway: does anyone think that our rights will be restored to pre-9/11 days, when either of the presidential candidates gets elected?

I'm just curious to see the answers....

That is a damn good question. However I will say this, I don't feel any bit safer now than I did pre-9/11 so that should tell you where my answer lies. :wink:

 

Nothing will be restored to pre-9/11 days. The 90s are gone forever.

 

No....it's not possible. The world has forever changed. It may get better, it may get worse...but it won't be the same.

 

Considering the fact that many of the Democrats in Congress went along with everything that the Bush administration wanted to do because they were too craven to stand up for the constitution and that there are a surfeit of Conservative DINOs in the "Blue Dog" Coalition who are just itching to jump ship and vote with the Republicans and the drop of a hat, no, I don't.

However, I do think that things will be absolutely disastrous if McCain is elected, and if he should happen to make it to the White House and get the chance to nominate any more Supreme Court Justices in the mold of Alito, Scalia, Roberts or Thomas, then I'm leaving the country.

 

Such the cynic, Karma. But, I happen to agree with you and the others. We won't ever get that back.

And like Tony Soprano said, I don't feel any safer.

I have posted my personal experience with McCain here in Arizona before, so I won't go into that. I believe this article sums up McCain quite nicely.

As a lifelong republican, served on committes, worked on campaigns, ect. it gives me no pleasure to not be able to vote with my party this time around in terms of the president, quite simply, in my opinion McCain is the wrong choice on multiple levels. I fall into the income category that will see higher taxes under Obama's plan, and I still plan on voting for him.

 

I'm just playing with you. You're so Debbie Downer about it, I was just trying to lighten the mood. :lol:

Wow! That article is an eye opener about McCain. It makes me want to seek out more articles about him and Obama.

I guess there's no time like the present to start researching these candidates even more. November is just around the corner now!

Bushworld, by Maureen Dowd. It's a pretty good book, from what I got to read. I only got about half through before I moved last year, though, and my mom never mailed it to me like she promised. The first few chapters talk at length about Bush and his little minions, McCain being one of the chief lackeys throughout both father and son's terms in the white house.
