Margaret Thatcher (The Iron Lady as she was called by the Russians) passed on this week. What a strong woman she was, I liked the lady, despite her politics. Hated by the left and feared by the right who did not like a woman running rough shode over their asses. R.I.P. Iron Lady.
Margaret Thatcher was no Winston Churchill but she was tough. I liked her, too. I did not know about her politics. I do remember seeing clips of her doing military zip lining and driving a tank on the comedy Not The Nine O'clock News(which spawned Not Neccessarily The News on HBO in the US). The show parodied her and the Royal Family a lot. R. I. P., Margaret.
I remember that political "ad" on Not Neccessarily the News in which Dennis Thatcher said "My Wife I think I keep her, won't you?" and it said "Vote Thatcher". I had not heard much from Meril Streep on the role that won her that Oscar. I had not forgotten her on her reaction on the Brixton Race riots, saying the belief of African rule in South Africa would be in 'cloud cuccoland',and her close friendship with Jesse Helms of my home state of North Carolina.
