If they were merely going against Bush and not the Republican party as a whole, Pennsylcania Republicans would not be voting solidly Democratic down ticket much less re-registering as Democrats en masse. Penn is clearly turning solidly blue, and if you think that Toomey has any chance whatsoever in the general next year, you're insane.

As for the Republicans recruiting you to positions within the party, if it's that's true, I can't say that I'm surprised. They're always on the look out for self-loathing black reprobates such as yourself to use as cheap gimmicks to feign diversity within the party in order to garner votes and to provide cover for their not so subtle anti-black rhetoric.

Thats great. its sad I don't have the same hate towards you that you show to me. I am not "self loathing" I feel that blacks need to work hard and have values. Moral decay is hurting our community. In the past we as black people would work together better then we do today. My family are still Democrats and I was one as well. I feel the Dems have moved too far left. Weak on crime ,weak on foreign policy. The ACLU protects black criminals that kill "black people" in black communties.

 

So the Democratic party and the ACLU are responsible for the woes of a certain section of the black population in this country? And you also believe that Republicans have sole proprietorship over "hard work" and "moral decency"? :roll:

Look, you GOP stooges can spin the results of every election that doesn't go your way all day long, but the fact remains that the drubbings you guys received in the last two elections were no fluke, inconsequential or even coincidental with the downward spiral this country faced. Ah, the days when the Karl Roves were predicting a permanent Republican majority. It's amazing to witness the fact that the Republicans destroyed in less than 20 years what it took the Democrats over 40 years to do i.e. control of Washington. The GOP exploited the tragedies of 9/11 for its political gains, and for a while, it worked. Only they could convince voters that a triple amputee who gave his life for his country could somehow be sympathetic towards the world's most notorious terrorist. In the wake of the terror attacks in New York and the anthrax scare that swept through Washington, the GOP convinced (at least tried) to convince Americans that the Democratic Party could not be trusted on important issues such as national defense and security, fiscal issues and cultural values.

For a while, it seemed like Americans were willing to believe them. At one point, the GOP and conservatives were in control of all three branches of government. The Dems felt like a team down by 25 points with 1 minute left on the clock - dejected, bitter and shut out of the process. George W Bush managed to convince the nation that John Kerry was the second coming of Neville Chamberlain, and Howard Dean was the biggest laughing stock in American politics. Oh, how times sure can change! Fast forward to 4 years, and one could swim from Minnesota to Maine in a deep blue sea without touching red shores. George W Bush went from national hero to a laughable lameduck. The Republicans almost felt like they had no place in Washington perhaps it was best they quit. And of course, Barack Obama managed to convince even the most skeptical amongst us that he can lead us into a new frontier of Americana.

Make no mistake about it, these events did not happen by accident. The Republicans got drunk with power, refused to listen to the voices of those who weren't preaching to their choir and somehow forgot that the USA is actually a two-party system. Karl Rove's vision of a permanent Republican dominance in US politics went from possibility to kooky guesswork. In the face of a more diverse, more tolerant and younger America far removed from the days of Jim Crow, Vietnam and Watergate, it seemed the Republican Party kept wiping off the dust of the Reagan-era playbooks and using it time and time again. Of course, that bitch called reality kicked in and gave them a roundhose kick, Chuck Norris style. As we speak in 2009, the Democrats on Capitol Hill and that guy in the White House can pretty much pass any laws they want without Republican input (not that it was necessary or warranted in the first place.)

Now all of this is not to say that the GOP is permanently removed from the ranks of competition. The Democrats are notorious for being full of unnecessary infighting, inconsistency and the ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. And of course, arrogance, corruption and the feeling of unaccountability is an equal opportunity offense. For every Jack Abramoff, Randy Cunningham and Tom Delay in the elephant party, the Dems have their Norman Hsu, Jack Murtha and Charlie Rangel. But at least for the next few election cycles, the party relegated to minority status can choose to do either of two things: continue its course of purging members deemed uncommitted to the cause of religious and cultural intolerance, tax cuts for the wealthy and cowboy-style military "democratization" or wake up to the fact that the days of the "Southern strategy" are over and reconcile to the fact that Americans aren't easily wedded to the polarizing wedge issues of race, sexual orientation and religion. Only then will the Republicans remain relevant and vibrant on the national political scene.

And let the spin begin ....
