The TEA Party wave has created a lot of ripples since their inception and recent Congressional victories back in November. And now, one TEA Party favorite, Governor Rick Scott (R-FL), who is known for trying to defeat "Obamacare." Well, now that he's the newly elected Governor, he's going to exercise his utmost fiscal conservatism and so far, it has pissed off a good chunk of Floridians.

To add insult to injury with his practices, he recently signed a bill which requires anyone who want to receive welfare has to undergo drug testing. This is controversial in many ways due to him targeting poor, working people, especially those of color and the backlash is louder than the Bosley cream he applies to his head. Of course, we can poke fun of the dick-shaped head (of Florida), but it's imperative that we all have to acknowledge that this new wave of people are going to hurt the country and bring it down even further.

 

Don't forget he is the one who helped pass a law against sagging pants.

 

I'm only "against" that because it impedes on the people's rights.

 

Wow, that's terrible, I can imagine how they feel, when I was struggling I definitely benefited from food stamps.

Are you talking about the sagging pants ban or the getting drug tested to qualify for welfare (which is the topic)?

There's also such a thing as lobbying against it to getting it all repealed, too. But wait, poor communities lack that and your example is pretty piss poor given that poor communities don't really have access to abortion clinics, especially since Florida's one of the few states which practically banned abortion. Plus contraceptives, though it should be considered easy access, the truth is that it's not the case.

As for the actual topic, getting drug tested would be a waste of everyone's time, including the government and health agencies. So in a nutshell, it's even more counterproductive on those who want less work on their desks.

 

Sure, hire a private company to do drug testing....ONLY if we're dealing with people qualifying for jobs. But for those just applying for welfare? You must this low...

How are they not sustaining themselves? And for the record, most of them DO have jobs. The only issue is that they are not able to pay all of their bills. So they would need things like food stamps to help assist them so they can continue to work and pay the bills. How hard is that for you to comprehend?

 

they should be drug tested.

1) druggies are a drag on society. they commit crimes and impede on our rights to live in a crime free community.

2) it helps them to get off the drugs because they can be more productive

3) its a waste of money. they can use it to get out of debt and/or pay their bills

 

I have a friend who's on food stamps and government subsidies. She's finishing her schooling in engineering and she works as well (hardly sleeps), also raising a kid. Why would she need to get drug tested in the first place given that she's someone who takes care of herself and her business?

Furthermore, drug addicts hardly get welfare and if they do, they are in small numbers. Those who do drugs often commit crimes because of drugs being illegal and all that crap.

Am I implying that people should still be on welfare? No. There are better ways and processes for anyone to get welfare. But drug testing? Preposterous.

 

some people will never get off of welfare even if they have two jobs. its just economics. Im not worried about them or the person who is in school.

to be on govt programs there are rules no different than living with moms. you receive money from someone else you have to play by the rules. if the effort is to get them off the drugs then even better. also why give some one who is a druggie money to help his drug habit. so what you are going to school. piss in the cup and keep it moving. if you are not doing drugs then why are you mad ?

 

1. Drug induced persons will only find other means to make money. That won't stave off drug addictions.

2. Maybe since you want to treat this as a business, then we might as well not let any places of worship get tax exemptions since that's a kind of drug as well.

3. If I was in that predicament, I find it to be a waste of time on all accounts especially from a government standpoint. They'll fund the company and that's where taxpayer's dollars will be distributed. That, my friend, is the main reason. Want to save money, then hound those on welfare by other means.

this is sad to try and target a often negatively perceived group of people who are largely minorities because you have some fear or paranoia concerning them on the basis that a percentage uses drugs is just wrong and uncalled for and brings added shame/ fear on people who may be first users of the service/program just trying to survive in these hard economic times and provide for their families.

 

No, you idiot. And you obviously didn't bother reading the other posts. Very incredulous on your part, that's for damn sure. The majority of those people still work, but would get subsidies, mainly food stamps, to help make-up what they can't afford.

 

im not saying all that im just saying the people who use drugs and on welfare/(Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is relatively small percentage and to call out/judge everyone based on the actions of the few is messed up

 

Then at least take the time to digest and read the posts beforehand. Basically, by your logic, then racial profiling ought to be OK'd to prevent any criminal activity.
