I looked at the link and I didn't find any racism there. He has conservative views on race. That doesn't make him racist. And your argument about people hiding who they really are because they're in the public eye can apply to ANYONE, even people on the left. So when you go after Buchanan, make sure you look at everyone else the same way.

Louis Farrakhan did, and plenty of blacks hold him in high regard. But I guess he doesn't count then, huh?

 

Why on earth would you assume that I would not condemn Farrakhan? The man is a hate-spewing, criminal, con-artist, who has made a fortune bastardizing one of the worlds great religions, and duping those foolish enough to follow him. Not to mention playing an integral part in the Killing Malcom X, who was a true civil rights warrior who saw the folly of his ways while part of the NOI and came to what he called true Islam at the end of his life.

 

Again. This topic has nothing to do with opposition to Obama or his policies. Criticism from one's political opponents is to be expected, and in my opinion, is a requisite for healthy government.

I posted that article to cast light on the unbridled vitriol and rage that was directed at one of the President's young children for no reason besides the color of her skin. For all of the criticism, fair or otherwise, that Bush and the Republican party en masse received when they held power, I don't ever recall seeing the minor child of a Republican politician attacked by people on the left in such a manner.

 

He was wrong when he said that.

There has not been "perpetual friction" between the races. But I can attest from my school days that there has been animosity between blacks and whites. In my high school, whites were the minority. They were picked on and attacked by some blacks. I saw a gang of black kids beat up two white kids while yelling "fuckin honkeys" and "white bitch", while no one did anything. In class, I heard black kids say "I hate white people" and the teachers didn't do anything.

Many blacks would talk crap about me because I had white friends (many of whom were beat up because they were white), the way I talked, and because I wasn't into rap and hip-hop, so I have a different experience about race than some blacks and other nonwhites. If it were reversed, there would have been a firestorm of controversy. You would have had every civil rights group protesting and demanding action. But because it was blacks attacking and harassing whites, it didn't make a dent. I've seen black racism against whites, and it's just as bad as white racism against blacks

Once again. I apologize. It's just that I've seen so many condemn one side while remaining silent about the other side. I realize that you are a straight-shooter, even though we have our disagreements

 

I compliment him from going from nothing, to a major historical figure, even if he is behind one of recorded history's worst atrocities. I guess this makes me insane or cooning for the Heil.



I would think that many people want to become larger, than what they are, in life. Ambition drives many of us. His was just misplaced, and many people died as a result.

I don't disagree with you. Power does not change hands without this sort of thing happening. The far-far right wing of the party believed that 1980's Reagan "family values" type politics still had juice but they found out that a Democrat can wrap himself up in that (and be black) and still win. The GOP has had it's greatest success when it has leaned toward the more George H.W. Bush, business oriented, old money side of itself as opposed to the anti-abortion, anti-gay rights, pro religion (only if it's casual Judaism or hardcore Christianity) side. It's funny how Catholics have bashed Obama and jumped in ship with southern Protestants that have despised them for years. Politics makes strange bedfellows.

I wouldn't go that far. I'd just say that their unspoken motto of "do as we say but not as we do" is getting kinda tired.

 

Those comments were ignorant and totally uncalled for, but why is this made into a story by the media. Are they not aware of all the hatred and name calling going on out there on blogs and the internet as a whole? Children of presidents should never be targets of these types of attacts, but we would be here all day if we were to discuss every time Obama or his family members were attacted. The media is getting out of hand with this stuff.

 

Poor Malia was just wearing a cool fashion statement, probably. The peace sign is hot right now in kids' clothes. It doesn't mean what it originally did, in the 1960s.

A lot of the people making these remarks are still stuck in the 60s. They never got over losing Vietnam ... never got over being forcefed the Civil Rights movement. And they are FREAKIN' that the Dems control both houses and the White House. And they are gonna fight dirty.

I happen to agree that Buchanan is a racist. This is not to say he's not a nice, decent enough guy. (Rachel Maddow calls him Uncle Pat.) But he has a distorted view of race, because of his upbringing and, frankly, the generation he grew up in.

I will be interested to see if America continue to reject this nastiness, or if repeatedly playing the race card will work for the GOP.
