I've read up on Susan Rice and watched her on TV a few times lately. She is a very influential and knowledgable ambassador. Much more so than SecState Hillary Clinton, who IMO, comes across monotone, shrill and not very impressive. It is important for the SecState to send powerful messages when making public statements. We have aleady had a SecState named Rice, but I hope that Obama eventually replaces Hillary with this rising star. Check out the contrast in their styles and you tell me who you think is more effective: Hillary: Susan Rice:
Hey, Mr. Sir Nose. President BO cannot do that. He put Hillary in that position to control her. Releasing her will only set Hillary up to criticize him and for her run for President in 2012. Remember that famous line from Micheal Corelone in Godfather 2, "keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer". besides putting Rice in there would open him up to criticism that he is favoring blacks as a black man, excuse me bi-racial man. Then he would be called a reverse racist.
Good call Black Tiger. Susan Rice may get it if Obama gets a second term, but Richard Holbrooke wants it bad too. Hillary was a bad choice IMO, but as you said she had to be appeased.
So how will Hillary put herself in a position to run in 2012? Sabotage from within? Or is waiting for a Supreme Court Nomination?
I always thought Susie Rice should either be National Security Adviser or Secretary of State. Jim Jones has proven to be ineffective, and I do not like Hillary Clinton at all, and her tenure at Foggy Bottom has been mixed at best. But Obama picked her for practical reasons, and I can understand why. Apart from Hillary, no other major Democratic politician can mount a serious challenge in 2012. Hillary is in the Cabinet, Edwards' political future is in limbo, Richardson faces corruption charges, and the verbal freelance artist known as Joseph Robinette Biden is the Vice President of the United States. As they say, keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. Obama seems to have reappropriated that maxim.
I personally thought the choice of picking Hillary for the Secretary of State job was a smart/safe pick. Hillary Clinton is the kind of woman that can get gully and you want to have that proverbial pit-bull on your side in times like these. Y'all don't know, Hillary can be a thug when she wants to be. She proved that last year during the primaries.:smt045
Her "warnings" to North Korea have been tepid. Susan Rice, on the other hand, gets her point across quite well.
