Obama to send 1,200 Troops to Mexican Border

US National Guard troops being sent to the Mexican border will be used to stem the flow of guns and drugs across the frontier and not to enforce US immigration laws, the State Department said Wednesday.

President Barack Obama on Tuesday authorized the deployment of up to 1,200 additional troops to border areas but State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters, "It's not about immigration."

He said the move was "fully consistent with our efforts to do our part to stem, you know, violence, to interdict the flow of dangerous people and dangerous goods -- drugs, guns, people." He said the extra troops would be used to free up civilians engaged in support functions so that law enforcement personnel can be increased along the 2,000-mile-long (3,200 kilometer) border.

Nearly 13 million Mexicans live in the United States, more than half of them illegally.

"We have explained the president's announcement to the government of Mexico, and they fully understand the rationale behind it," Crowley said.

Obama's announcement came less than a week after a state visit to Washington by Mexican President Felipe Calderon, who asked for greater US backing for a bloody three-year-old war on drug cartels.

Drug violence has claimed the lives of nearly 23,000 people over the past three years.

This is not suprising. The federal law is even tougher than Arizona's laws. Mexico's laws on immigration is even tought than the USA. Obama saw the american people were for securing the borders and he finally did his job. All he needs to do now is crack on the people hiring the illegal aliens and we will get illegal immigrants to go home(native country).

Mexico is the main foreign supplier of marijuana and methamphetamines to the United States. In recent years, it has become the main corridor along which heroin, cocaine, marijuana and other illegal drugs flow into the United States.

Sending troops to the border does NOTHING because MOST illegals either DRIVE or take the BUS into the Country.

They'll just drive or ride right past the troops.

They enter at the port of entry...not over...under...or through the fence.

 

Mexican cartels have displaced Colombian groups as the dominant cocaine traffickers in the world.

It's being reported today that the Mexican government is against the use of the national guard to restrict it's people from crossing into our country. Instead, Mexico is asking President Obama to use those 1,200 national guard to restrict the guns and drug traffic instead. Let the people go. President Obama complied to the request. What is the since of sending the national guard anyway. 1,200 is not enough. This is a ruse to make it look like something is being done. No country in this world is committing national suicide like this nation. Terrorists are coming into this country across our borders north and south and we do nothing. America is going to get what it deserves when the next several 911's happen and it's proven the terrorists came across our borders.

US crackdown on Mexico border could send more drugs through Caribbean

 

Being from an island nation, land borders just amaze me. I absolutely loved driving by, and taking photos of, the border fence down by San Diego.

 

There is no US crackdown on the southern border.

 

Unreal. Mexico is like the little spoiled brat kid that is always causing trouble and doesnt give a fuck who they are harming. And of course, America is the gutless, spineless parent that will bend over backwards for their little one (Mexico) no matter how much trouble they cause us.

My Home Town

I grew up in this little town of Nogales, back when I was a kid we had a barbed wire fence along this road. I have known many illeagls personally, they are not dangerous for the most part, nor do most of them trafic drugs. The great majority of drug trafickers in my experience either have false documents and come right through the border crossing, or they have true and legal documents and come through the same port of entry. Many of them are American Citizens, even minors, who do the actual runs for the Mafia groups or the individual dealers they work for. They do not go hiking through the desert, nor do they care how many troups are stationed along the border. Many of them are very much like you and I, they go about their business as business men and women, they have cover busnisses, they drive nice vehicles, they are often elderly or middleaged.

This will not do anything to solve the "problems" and I put that in quotes because although I do agree something should be done, I do not agree that the real problems have even been addressed. This is just a token to apease a few angry citizens.

I do see a danger however in having all those troups on the border, and that is that I see how we could end up with an all out WAR with Mexico (or at least with the Mexican rebels, Zapatistas, and such) if it continues.

I think Obama is wise to at least verbalize that he is only focused on drugs and guns.. But the truth is that most of the gun trafic goes to Mexico, it does not primerily come from Mexico. Most of the dugs on the streets in Southern Arizona come from Northern Arizona believe it or not. The large flow of drugs from Mexico into the US goes in very large loads north, and then some of it trickles back to the boarder.

I also do not personally like the idea of living in a community where there are armed soldiers guarding our border. I don't like the idea of more police and soldiers making my life and that of my neighbors more difficult, but I know something has to be done.

However if I had my choice I would approach it entirely from a different angle. I would OPEN the borders more, document everyone, allow anyone without a criminal history to visit the US, but not to work, nor would they receive wellfair of any sort, but they would have more freedom to come and go, and they would have to show documentation. I would also crack down on those who employ undocumented aliens here in the US.

I would then assist Mexico with it's own drug problem, and economic policies and help them create jobs in Mexico, and track their own criminals. I would not pour money on the situation, I would refocus money that is already being spent "building fences, etc". I would then place trade sanctions on Mexico if they didn't cooperate. I would however do as much as possible from within the Mexican government, so that Mexican Citizens did not feel like America was trying to tell them how to live their lives, or that America was trying to take over their country.
