Romney In A 'Cult,' Don't Vote For Him, Pastor Says The pastor who introduced Texas Gov. Rick Perry at a conservative gathering Friday said rival presidential candidate Mitt Romney is not a Christian and is in a cult because he is a Mormon. Robert Jeffress, the senior pastor at First Baptist Church in Dallas, made similar remarks about Romney when he ran in the 2008 campaign. Event organizers at the Values Voters Summit selected Jeffress to introduce Perry, but the Perry campaign was consulted about the choice and approved Jeffress to introduce the Texas governor. Jeffress endorsed Perry at the event and introduced him as "a proven leader, a true conservative, and a committed follower of Christ." After his remarks, Jeffress told reporters that Perry's religion is different from Romney's. "Rick Perry's a Christian. He's an evangelical Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ," Jeffress said. "Mitt Romney's a good moral person, but he's not a Christian. Mormonism is not Christianity. It has always been considered a cult by the mainstream of Christianity." Wow, "Mitt Romney and millions of people do not believe in Jesus Christ because I say so." '...the LORD looketh on the heart.' Suggesting that you can judge the hearts of so many, in this case someone else's personal relationship with Christ, is a grievous sin, because you saying that you have the power and mind of God. He is the only one who is not entirely bat-shit crazy. He's close - but he was governor of MA, and he was pro choice, worked across the aisle to get healthcare in place, and managed to work somewhat effectively with a Democratic legislature. "Vote for me, I'm not as insane as the rest of them!" should be his campaign slogan.
He was never pro-choice. During his governorship, he stated: He maintained that position throughout his governance because of his small government position. And he also reaffirmed to protect the pro-choice laws in Massachusettes. So, personally he's pro-life, but in terms of politics, he's willing to compromise and work with the state, especially since it's a Democrat heavy government. But I do agree with you, he should have created a campaign slogan stating that he's not as crazy as the others. Hehehe.
He functioned as pro-choice I guess is a better way to say it. Stubborn Yankees (New Englanders) really hate people getting up in their business. We have a "you mind your own business and I'll mind mine" mentality for the most part, which is why MA was also the first state to legalize gay marriage.
