received this in an e-mail going around. I thought it pretty much summed up what socialism is all about.

    :* *A simple analogy*

An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said ok,we will have an experiment in this class on socialism. All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.
The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.
But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too; so they studied little.. The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around the
    average was an F.

That only works if 100% of the students only study in order to get good grades.

Question? Do believe any form of socialism to be pernicious? If so, do you spend time railing against our 'socialized' police departments, firefighters, and military?

Why do people gravitate so heavily towards these types of false emails? Could it be because it gives them something to hang their prejudices on?

"From each accordingly to his ability, to each accordingly to his need". It just doesn't work

I think it was just a thought, the important is what the thing says, not if the fact really happened or not.
I think it describes comunism more, though.
It reminds me of when I interviewed albanian people about the comunist dictatorship that ended in the 1991. They said similar things about work. Very interesting
