Thanks. I've always found that a respectful disagreement is the easiest way to understand someone else's point of view, and the best way to teach them yours.

With all due respect, what is so unusual about that? All pro-lifers I'm familiar with, as well as myself, are pro-life for that very reason. We believe that no life is an accident, even if humans consider it so. To me and many pro-lifers, a fetus is still a life, even if it can't yet survive outside the womb.

It takes at least 18 years before it can survive on its own.

    Never said it was unusual.

I understand that most (all?) pro-lifers believe that. IMO your beliefs, nor mine, should dictate what another woman does with her body. That's the gist of it for me.

Agreed. I have not committed to help anyone with financial support. That is another reason why I am pro choice. Money where your mouth is anyone?

And who fights for the life of that unborn baby since he/she can't? If the fetus is not a life, why do we care if a mother smokes, drinks or takes drugs while pregnant? So what if she wants to tie one on every night or smokes a pack a day. I mean, it's her body, right?

There are a lot of things that happen in this world that I consider distasteful, but it is her body and therefore her choice. What if she decides to cut her own toes off? You going to punish her for it??

By that same token though, why are the rights of an embryo more important than the rights of an adult woman? The woman is the host in this whole process, therefore it's HER opinion that should ultimately be given priority over an embryo. My personal beliefs are that the fetus should have rights once it's viable. In the early weeks of pregnancy (when most abortions happen), it's a developing cluster of cells...it's not a baby/fetus therefore it doesn't need fighting for IMO. Again, I understand that others believe differently, and that's fine, but it won't change what's scientifically proven. Again, my point is that you're free to believe what you want, but you should have no power to dictate what another woman does with her embryo.

If a woman is deciding to continue her pregnancy, she's taking responsibility for the future life growing inside of her. With that responsibility comes the expectation that she stays as healthy as possible.

This is what I think some pro-lifers fail to recognize. There's more to it than just saying "it's a life, it should be protected". Who's going to protect it once the child is born??

    Precisely :smt023

Cutting her toes off may not harm the life of her child. The things I mentioned do.

Not just that, but the majority of these pro-life individuals would be the same ones bitching and moaning about paying taxes towards certain government sponsored programs. If you're fiscally conservative, and you claim to be pro-life, then there's a huge disconnect between those ideological thoughts.

Well, I guess I'm done here. If science has spoken, there's apparently nothing else to say. :smt102

Orrr, you could take care of your own child.

Orrr, you could take better precautions, knowing an abortion is not an option.

Not such a huge disconnect for the moaners, after all.

If abortion simply "weren't an option"...what about victims of rape, or incest, what about patients who get pregnant ON birth control or with a condom? Unplanned pregnancy isn't just a lack-of-precautions issue. There's far more to it, which is why I can't imagine the option of abortion every really being off the table.

Fetished people have done that, btw, whole legs, in fact - stuck their perfectly healthy limbs in dry ice...however they were mentally evaluated after it.

BTW, not every choice women make is the right one. I know, we are not perfect. :smt061

    Another form of disconnect.

If you're a single mom struggling to find time to keep your kid away from danger, all the while cannot afford much, let alone a baby sitter while you're working long hours, something wrong will come about in a few years or months, especially in an environment not so nice.

Plus, with children being placed in adoption agencies, there are more coming out of them than being put in. Again, a disconnect.

Besides, abortion doctors and conservatives ought to be best friends. Why? One takes care of the government sponsored types and the others can put more money in the pocket of people.

Ah, and we could possibly prevent another Hitler too.

Interesting take since pro-life is normally a conservative position and those types usually don't give a fuck about the lives of others. What's the plan once these kids are? A life of poverty and destitution to later be called a drain on the system?
    Very short sighted thinking.
