I heard an interesting discussion on a local talk show yesterday in which a muslim caller to the station who described himself as a moderate said that the Islamic world fear the west (Europe and the United States for it's empowerment of women and that this is a threat to the Islamic world. In addition, he said that Osama Bin Laden spoke of this when the United States brought it's military into Saudi Arabia with female service members who were challenging Saudi culture and beliefs in which women are not to be in positions of power. In our culture we see females challenging all roles that men once held. Do you agree that the coming clash of civilizations between the Christian West and the Islamic East will be over the empowerment of women? Makes you wonder how the muslim world is dealing with our Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and Susan Rice at the United Nations.
The irony is Pakistan has had female leaders, but of course the military carries the real power there. I doubt its that simple, these issues are a tangled mass of social, political and cultural problems.
GQ Brotha, you are one of the few black men on this site with a true insight to the global stage. I sometimes wonder if the Islamic world will ever realize that the true strength and potential for their nations rest in the other half of their populations and that is in their women.

Interesting, as Christianity went through the same thing. From the Protestant Reformation to the French Revolution that reshaped the influential characters in Europe politically, religiously and socially. It is why France today is so staunchly secular. The religious influence and conflicts of Europe were at one point just as paramount but it took the population rising up to create a secular state.
